My nearly 9 month old baby will go to sleep at a decent time i.e 6.30pm but is always waking in the night at 4am? he doesnt want anything not hungry, not wet etc. he just shouts and moans then cries if im not in there within about 5mins? i am sooooooo tired!

at night i always do the same as i did with my now 7 year old as in, i go in i dont turn the lights on i dont talk to him etc but yet he will not go back to sleep until about an hours time or more!

when he was in a travel cot he seemed to sleep longer!!!!!!!!!

any suggestions appreciated

Could be the 8/9 month sleep regression.

There is a great book explaining it called The Wonder Weeks by two scientists who researched all the developmental spurts up to 13 months.

They say:

"Your baby may start sleeping less well. Most babies do. She may refuse to go to bed, fall asleep less easily, and wake up sooner. Some are especially hard to get to sleep during the day. Others at night. And some stay up longer both during the day and at night."

The developmental spurt causing this happens at about 37 weeks, and there?s another one at around 46 weeks.

There?s useful information about it here, here and here.

I find that if my DS is awake in the night and doesn't go straight back to sleep, it's always 1.5 hours before he'll go back off. There's some biological reason for it, although I forget what exactly.

(Although I'm a bit Envy as my 10 m.o. wakes me 2 or 3 times every night.)

Armywag...

Right there with you. Can offer no advice but Angeldog is pretty helpful.

My DD 8.5month old woke every 2 and a half hours the last two nights. Has never slept through the night ever. I am fucked to but it bluntly. Everyone says she will get there soon. The best she has ever been is waking only twice (midnight and half 4)but this has only happened twice.
Just to make things better she only took 3 oz of milk at each of her 3 daily feeds today too. Luckily she ate her solids.

It is hell isn't it?
