Hi - have had conflicting advice on use of sleeping bags - is it safe to use one (of the correct size and weight) from 1 month old or not?!!

As long as the baby is big enough why wouldn't it be? Aren't they supposed to be safer than sheets and blankets anyway? FWIW we used one from about that age as DD was at least 11lb by then, but I think the Grobag brand ones can be used from 7lb.

I used one with both my Ds's from about 4-6 weeks, but I would only use if the baby doesn't like to be wrapped up, both my Ds's hated swaddling so used grobags to keep the little wrigglers warm!

I think most say from 7.5lb or so. Mothercare do 0-3 month ones that can be used from 5lb or so, iirc - you would need to check tho. The 'risk' as I understand it is that their head might slip down through the top, so make sure you are happy with the fit :)

You can get ones with poppers under the arms to make sure they can't slip down them. More safe than blankets and sheets IMO.

I used one from about 1 week old. I did have a very big baby though! As long as they can't slip down inside it's fine, and you can tack some stitches under the arms if it seems a bit big.

I used one from a few days old with both of mine. They were sizeable babies (7,15 and 9) but I felt it was by far the safest way to put them down at night. The poppers under the arms made me feel secure that they wouldn't work their way down into the bag.

As long as your baby isn't tiny and I'd have thought after a month it would be big enough anyway, and you are using the correct size it is definitely safe IMO. I didn't realise there was any controversy over it!

Thank you - I can't remember where I was told / where I read about waiting to use them but given I have one with poppers under the arms and baby is a decent size then I am using it!
