8 wk old doing karate in bed

I put my lo down about 7:30 each night however rather than going to sleep he will lie awake waiving his little arms around like he is doing karate, making noises like he is a bit upset but not actually crying. Often this will last 45-60 mins and then he will fall asleep, but other times he will startle and then start crying, working himself up to a state where we have to pick him up to settle him.
It's not a problem as such, but I am curious to know whether anyone else has experienced this / has any thoughts why he does this?

Yes, my little girl does this as well. She's 6 weeks old. At times I think I've given birth to a cross between an Ewok and R2D2 with all the clicking and parping I hear at bedtime. She also does the shadow boxing thing as well. I don't know why, but just saying that you're not alone!

My four week old does this, works up to a loud cry only to go quiet and start again. It goes on for hours. Our first child did this too and did eventually grow out of it, but I can't remember when!!!

yep I too have a karate kid, my 8wo DS. I thought that whirling arms and active feet indicated tiredness - baby whisperer also said that they have no conttrol over their arms and legs - is that right?

Any tips for settling him? I just give up and bring him downstairs... hes currently sat with me right now, sleeping on and off - bad mum alert [hblush]
