My 20 week old will not sleep!

My little boy is almost 5 months old (20 weeks) and he simply will not sleep. He doesn't nap well in the day despite me giving him opportunities to do so at roughly the same time of day every day, catching 2 hours on a very good day and as little as 30 minutes for the whole day on a bad day. He is now waking up to 9 times at night. He seems very hungry at times so feeds (b/f) on at least half of those occassions. I started weaning with him early at 17 weeks but it doesn't seem to make any difference. He screams unless it is I who goes to him and refuses a bottle of formula from me or other willing helpers. I am quite literally at my wits end. Help!

Hmm - I'm in the same position. DS always was a bad napper and is still waking frequently wanting a feed (although not taking much each time).

I'm going to try giving him water tonight after a late dreamfeed as advised by a few people. Apparently after a few nights of horror, it should work...I'll let you know if it works although I might to be too soft to go through with it...

Okaaay - one suck of water was enough to put him to sleep but he screamed unless I gave it to him. That's a bad feed-to-sleep association then. Not really sure what to do next.

No! But I have a 23 week DD who is waking up all the time at the moment and I dont know what to do - feed, try to soothe, or lie in bed thinking evil thoughts about my sleeping DH :-).....

There is a sleep regression around this time...it may be the reason for your LOs not sleeping well.

Some details here
