Waking up & staying awake!

PRESH · 13/09/2005 16:19

My dd is 10 months old and is waking up about 6 times a night. She has been doing this for about a week, but the last 3 nights she has woken up around 11pm and it's taken at least 2 hours to get her back off to sleep. She has never really slept through on a regular basis but this is just taking things too far!
What am I doing wrong or more importanly what can I do to stop it? Help please!

Presh, my DS (6 months almost) has started waking in the night having only just started sleeping through (although usually only once) and is also staying awake for anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours. It's soul destroying isn't it

I don't have any advice as I'm obviously going wrong somewhere too but these are some of the things I've read/heard etc that could help. When he wakes up, I've been giving him a drink of water (as it's been quite warm) and a cuddle and then putting him back in his cot. I don't put any lights on and I say 'ssshhh' and cover his eyes. He fusses for a while and then seems to calm down, which is when I go back to bed (I'm in the same room). Sometimes he goes straight to sleep and other times he starts fussing again and we repeat the process all over again !!

I'm just persevering with it and have found that 3.00am waking has slowly moved to 5.00am.

'It's just a phase' seems to be the mantra

I reallly do think it's a phase (sorry). My dd did this for a while, but it didn't last too long, and now sleeps beautifully!

Presh, my DS went to sleep at 6.45pm last night and slept through to 6.15am this morning. So persevering has worked (for one night at least !!)

PRESH · 14/09/2005 11:03

Well, last night she slept from 7:30, woke at 2:45, had a drink then went back off until 6:15 this morning, which was bliss!
I have done all the only offering water etc, shhh and she just looks at me as if to say, nope i'm awake and will stay awake!
we also share a room which i think makes it more difficult, i could ignore it if she were in a different room - bad mummy alert!
Hopefully it's a phase and she will get over it, although something tells me i'm not going to sleep well tonight as we never have two nights the same!

Presh, glad you had a good night. I competely understand the 'nope I'm not doing it' look as my DS has one exactly the same I also never expect two 'good' nights in a row so fingers crossed for both of us tonight
