Moving from a cot to a bed. Bad idea?

I have two DSs - DS1 is 2.6 and still in his cot bed, which he CAN'T climb out of!

He tends to wake up once or twice a night at the moment, but often resettles himself, or we just have to pop in and put the blanket back on.

DS2 is 7 months and very soon needs to move from the amby nest to a cot. so the options are:

  1. Buy a toddler bed for DS1 and put DS2 in the cot bed.
  1. Buy another cot for DS2.

The thing is, I am really worried that if we put DS1 in a bed he will start getting out of it, and it will disrupt his sleeping.

BUT, it seems silly to buy a cot for DS2 - and then have to buy a toddler bed as well, fairly soon!

What is your experience, does moving them to a toddler bed interfere with their sleeping or am I worrying unnecessarily?

NB - it can't be that long before DS1 can climb out of his cot, but at the moment he can't adn it is wonderful.

Move DS to bed in long run but I wouldn't rush. My DD1 was in her Amby until 1 (she was 91st centile for weight and 98th for height so not small!). I think they are suitable for ages.

We moved DD into a toddler bed at 2 years old and had no problems.in fact in the morning she shouts for us to go in and get her!
So for us it was unexpectedly smooth.
