11 week old not settling

11 week old dd wont settle to sleep. She wont sleep and we have to be with her and hold her or hold her dummy in her mouth for her to sleep. She has been fed tonight at about 8.00 and had 6 oz of formula and when I tried to put her in her cot at about 8.30 she got very restless. I think she is overtired as she wont sleep during the day unless I hold her. Sometimes when she is in her car seat she will sleep in the car or on the wheels. Last night she went down at 9.00 and slept only to wake at 2.00 and I couldnt get her to settle until 04.30 and we were back up at 7.15. Any tips as I am getting pretty tired..

what happens if you just leave her?

mmmmchocolate · 09/09/2005 22:08

if you use dummies?!?!?! my dd used to wake up crying if she lost hers when we were trying to escape out her room , the best ones i think are the nuk starlight, they are shaped and stay in there mouths even if they stop sucking for a bit..... hth xx

starlover - if I leave her she just cries and gets herself in a state. She will sleep in my arms but the moment she goes down to the cot she is wriggling etc. Just been in at her and she smiled at me . Have put her in her sleeping bag and cuddled her and now she has settled and gone to sleep.
mmmmchocolate - what is the nuk starlight and where do I get them?!

ds is now 7m and if he gets in a state i still cuddle him til he settles down...
what i normally do is put him down and then just keep going back if he cries and settle him down again until he has gone off.

its just a dummy but shaped so they can hold it in, i loved them when dd was newborn and she sleep through the night from 9 weeks so she loved them too. You can get them in superdrug or your local chemist will prob do them. If not i would be happy to get you same and send them to you. x

mmmmchocolate - many thanks for the offer. Will check with the chemists and let you know. Maybe will take you up on it. Hopefully they will do the trick.
