Both DC waking early, how can I sort this before the clocks go back?

Both my DC have started waking at 5:45ish, DD is 2.10 and DS 16 months. It's early but doable ATM but the thought of it turning into 4:45 when the clocks go back fills me with dread. Sometimes one wakes the other, DS by crying and DD by 'reading' loudly in her bedroom or making a hash of opening my bedrom door. Sometimes they wake independently but still too early.

I'm not expecting them to sleep until 8:00 or 8:30 like friends DC do (although that would be wonderful) but 7:00 or 6:30 would be much, much better for us all.

Bedtime starts at 7:00, so DS is usually asleep by 7:30 and DD by 7:45 or 8:00.

Any ideas?

gowest, just found this thread calling all fellow parents of early risers - i hardly dare say i, but i THINK this wake-to-sleep thing MAY work...! . No idea how I didn't see it before.

Gah. DS was awake when I went into him and has been ever since.

DD OTHT was almost impossible to stir and managed to sleep until 6:15 despite his protestations, so I suppose that's something.

I so hope this is worth it.

5am starts here. I try to do a bit of CC, though only for a few minutes. I'm also dreading the clocks changing as the thought of 4am fills me with dread.

I'm going to adjust the bed-time over a few nights as the poster above suggested.

I've tried WTS before and I had a nightmare as I never got back to sleep afterwards and DD still woke at 5 every time.

Watching with interest.

So... DS woke this morning as usual at 5.30. I gave him a bottle and put him back in his cot. He moaned (not cried) for ages, but did settle again.

DD however did not wake until just after 7. Then so did DS. That's OK though. If I could just lose the 5.30 bottle with him... Thing is as I said previously I think as he does sleep through from about 6.30pm, he has done 11 hours and genuinely seems to need/want it. I can almost forgive him :)

I'm not going to so a thing differently until the clocks change though.

WTS seems to be working to a certain extent with DD, she was up at 6:30 this morning, although I think that was DS's fault for the most part. Certainly an improvement.

He was up at 5:30 despite being disturbed at 4:45.

Last night was night 3 so I'll have to wait and see what happens tomorrow morning Hmm

Good luck. Please report back.

Today 10m DS woke at 6.30am and 2.8yo DD woke at 7am so I don't think I have much to complain about WRT their sleep.

Potty training I could complain about loudly!

:)

oh It's me gowest BTW

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 10/10/2010 11:04

Well, this morning was the first 'test morning and Shock Grin...

DS woke at 6:40 and DD at 6:50! Brilliant. We'll have to see what happens the next two mornings but this is a great improvement. +/- an hour later than before I started.

If they drift back over the next two 'test' days I'll certainly be persevering. TBH I might do another round even if they don't, see if I can get them to 7:30.

Marvellous. That's so close the the dream 7am we all aspire to!

artifarti · 10/10/2010 19:30

Ooh, good result, yes! DS did his own WTS the night before last, waking at midnight in pain because of teeth. It may have disrupted his habit as he has woken at 6.20 the last two mornings. Or we might be back to 5.20 tomorrow...

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 11/10/2010 05:45

DS up at 5:30, I went to him too soon I fear. think he might have gone back to sleep if I hadn't. He had DD awake at 6 demanding to be put on the loo for a poo and given a snack...

One more morning and then another cycle of WTC I think Biscuit

DS slept until 6:45 this morning and DD to 6:15. DD even managed to (more or less) stay in her room until the carousel light came on at 7. Fantastic.

This was the third 'test' day and TBH I'm at a loss to know if I should do another round of WTS or not.

Are you around rubyslippers?
