My DD has been sleeping really well for a while now. She is 20 months and goes to bed at 7pm-ish til 6am-ish.

On Sunday night she woke at about 10pm with a fever, and since then has had a really nasty cold. She hasn't slept a full night since. My eyes are on stalks.

What should I do if she wakes in the night now? I have let her come in with me the last few nights, but I really need some sleep. I'm working Weds-Fri btw.

Would it be possible that she is teething? I don't think you can safely go back to sleep if they have a fever in case it gets worse, DH and I take turns, sI keep checking DS from 12 - 3 and DH from 3 -6, afterwards the three of us are absolutely knackered and manage to sleep until 8:30. Hope you have a better night tonight.

Thank you. She only had a temp on Sun & Mon, just nasty cold now.

Jess has got a cold at the moment too and waking every few hours or so, i go in, cuddle her and she goes back.... not ideal but i cant let her cry it out when she's ill - its not fair on her!

No, I agree.

Ok, off to bed now, if anyone has any more ideas before I go, they would be much appreciated. (Can't believe I'm still up!).

She's still asleep btw!!

The best thing you can do is be consistent with what you have been doing i always feel. It is only a cold after all. The temperature has gone now so she might wake often over the next few nights but it will pass.(Dont mean to sound horrible, but she is going to have dozens over the next couple of years, theyre horrible, but no reason to have her in bed with you unless you already do that anyway).

Medised is good when they have a cold. It helps with the mucus and gets them to sleep better.

As a point of reference, the only time i have ever had my daughter in bed with me was when she had chicken pox at 16 months and she literally woke every 20 - 30 minutes because of the itch during the first 2 nights the spots came out. Then we found some stuff called Eurax and she went back in her own bed on the 3rd night because she wasnt waking at all.

The only other time i have slept right next to her has been when she has been in hospital overnight.

Maybe im just a meanie though! :-) hope your DD gets better soon though.

Thanks for that. We'll see how tonight goes.

I just don't know what to do when she is screaming so bad sometimes.

Ive had it a bit myself tonight! DS has a cold and now a cough and conjuctivitis. Have been up n down the stairs all night. Turns out a bit of teething gel worked magic on him.

Totally got it wrong tonight. Goes like that though sometimes. I do sympathise - im there right now!

SleepySuzy · 08/09/2005 23:46

I sometimes use teething gel, just to keep her quiet! I say do you want some bonjela? And she says yeah, and thinks it is something good!
