How the hell do you get lo to nap without hysteria

Ds number 2 is a Difficult Baby. Not his fault - he has terrible reflux and is on meds. Night times have been a bit better, but getting him to nap is AWFUL

He only naps for 30 mins, no matter what. He either sleeps in pram or swing or rarely on me as he is not keen on feeding to sleep. Whatever I do to get him to sleep, I maintain, ie if in pram, we keep walking.

Atm he is upstairs SCREAMING in his swing. I have tried feeding, walking, everything. He will not go to sleep and it is getting worse in the daytime. I hate hearing him cry. I've taken him out and nursed him several times, but he is getting morea nd more hysterical.

Please do not tell me to look out for tired signs - this doesn't work with him. It worked well with his big bro, but he was an easy baby.

hi nicky - you don't say how old your LO is, but I guess he's under 8months if he has reflux?

I did Baby Whisperer stuff with DD, and found her pat-shhh thing worked well (took under a week for her to learn to settle herself).

I also got some "White Noise" from iTunes, put speakers under her cot & that really helped her settle too (it did drive me slightly mad, but I figured that the sound of a waterfall was loads better than the sound of a screaming baby)

Hope you are managing to get some decent sleep?

Hi nicky - sounds like my DS who was also a refluxy baby. He would also only usually nap for 40 mins at a time (though sometimes up to 5 times a day), and only ever on the move (car, pram/buggy, swing seat).

I had some success using a Baby Bjorn sling to keep him upright and he would nap in that if I walked around (either inside or outside depending on weather).

Have you given slings a try? I found it hard sometimes because DS was a whopper so I often got sore shoulders carrying him around for a nap, but it was worth it for the peace and quiet :). Also got some funny looks pounding the streets with him in it with his little feet dangling, but I didn't care as long as he was sleeping!

Ranitidine worked for us and DS took that from when he was 5 months to when he was 14 months. I tried stopping it several times before then, but he was always instantly and dramatically sick, so we kept on with it until he was 14 months and since then (now 17 months) he's been ok.

From 8/9 months he would nap in the cot and started sleeping better, and now often sleeps through which I thought was impossible this time last year.

Hope you find some solutions - it sounds really hard :(.

He's 3 mths.

He has improved a wee bit the last few days, but he does have good spells, so not getting my hopes up yet.

He shocked me with a meag nap this afternoon of 2 hrs!?

GOd knows what he'll do tomorrow/tonight.

I have BW, so will look at it, though tbh I hold out little hope as he is v.tricky!
I have 2 slings. SOmetimes work well, yes.

Thank you for your replies. Smile
