Why do I never seem to know what to do for the best!?!

DS is fast approaching 7 months and has fairly often slept all through the night (7-7)in the past month or two. Now, suddenly, he's waking up at 1-2am.

My dilemma (and I'm sure you all know what it's like at 2am...suddenly your brain stops functioning properly and all you want to do is get them back to sleep!!):
-do I feed him and put him back to sleep; or
-do I give CC'ing a try since I know he can go through the night quite easily?

I've tried CC on occassion (absolutely no use I'm sure and needs to be consistent but DH is crap at it to say the least...)
In fact, did it the other night, and after half an hour he was back to sleep BUT woke up at 5.40 blatantly ready to start his day!! (I may add at this point that he had that look of "you thought you'd won didn't you mother" on his face!!).

Hmmm....I'm suspecting that we should just feed him but I have to admit that I cave too quickly to the pressure of those people who ask 'is he sleeping through yet?" and "you do know that he's taking the mick by waking at that time for a feed?"

Advice please!!!

what do you think, then? That he is deliberately plotting to ruin your night? I have to myself that if a baby wakes in the middle of the night and asks for a feed, probably he needs it. Hence the waking up earlier the next morning. Have you tried feeding him lying in bed, so you can sleep?

Sorry Cleo not really qualified to give 'advice' here but can relate to the dilemma! My dd can really easily become a habitual night time feeder from time to time and i don't really go for the cc approach fully but i do let her whinge a bit before giving in and feeding. I also try to put her off by giving her a dummy (not everyones cuppa tea)or just giving her a cuddle until she settles and then saying 'sleepy time' before she's totally asleep and setting her down again. Basically, i try to make sure that it is definitely hunger that's caused her to wake up before feeding her.
I guess it must feel like a bit of a backward step for you as your ds has slept through previously! Good luck!
