Knocking edge of cot waking DS2 up

DS2 is 5 and a half months and now sleeps on his tummy, as he prefers that position and very much into rolling! So, I'm leaving him in whichever position he falls asleep in.

BUT, he keeps pushing himself along the cot (a bit like commando crawling) and ending up at the end or sides, banging himself against the bars, which is waking him up.

I don't really want a cot bumper, but I wondered if anyone had similar experiences or any ideas for solutions? If not, how long is this likely to last, when might he start getting himself away from the edge?

Thanks
