3 month old sleeping downstairs until bedtime

my 3 month old cluster feeds during the evening from around 7 pm until 12 when i take him up to bed when i go, he goes down without to much fuss and generally sleeps until 6am ish. im not sure though if i should be putting him in his cot when he naps, it seems pointless as in the evening he only naps in short bursts between times of activity and feeding, but i want to make sure im doing the right thing, is it okay to put him down on the couch to nap obviously under supervision, during the day and evening?

The couch is not very safe - it would only take 30 seconds for you to look elsewhere and he could roll off and hurt himself. There's no need to take him up to his cot for every nap though. I used to use a travel cot downsatris for daytime naps as DS used to be very bad at naps so I would have to constantly resettle him and didn't want to walk upstairs every time! Worked really well as he got used to the idea that his "proper" cot was for a long nightime sleep and the cot downstairs was for naps. Was an easy transition to using his proper cot for all naps when he got to around 6 mo too. Also means that he's used to sleeping around noise and doesn't wake up at every sound.

is there an alternative out there to a travel cot? As my living room is the size of a postage stamp and there wouldnt be room to move!

My DD2 naps in her bouncy chair or carrycot during the day and evening until we go up then she sleeps in her cot.

Mine slept in the Moses basket downstairs and the bouncy chair until it was bedtime.

You can get some travel cots which are pretty small. I think there is a pop up tent-like one out there - sorry no links. Hope it goes well!

DD slept downstairs in her carrycot in the day & until bedtime until she was just over 6 mths old (unless she was sleeping on my lap of course Wink.

You should do whatever works for you and your family so long as it's not harmful to anyone.

Couch not safe - try bouncy chair, or your arms Smile

3 months is still really tiny... plenty of time to get them into bed at a decent time later - do what works for now and don't worry about it.... they change so fast.....

i put the footstool of my poang chair by the couch, with a couple of pillows on it. That way, if ds rolls, he will fall on the footstool (or be stopped by the pillows). Never happened, but feels safer this way.

DS used to nap on the sofa with the footstool against the edge so that he would have had to roll over and over to fall off the edge.
