My ds is coming up to 4 weeks old and I just want to know at what age did you start a bedtime routine with your DCs?

I have a vague plan in my head of how I want the bedtime routine to go but was going to wait til he's old enough to realise whats happening so he knows that this routine means bedtime.

Thanks

hello - we started in a hopeful sort of way at about 6 weeks I think.

all it really meant was that feeding and settling happened in our room with the lights low rather than in the sitting room / kitchen / wherever we were. I don't think our efforts at a "soothing night routine" were worthwhile until more like 4 months though ...

it did mean we started to have supper again together even if I was up again to feed her at 8.30 or 9 or whenever - and that was GREAT!

I suppose theres no harm in trying to start one in a few weeks time and see how we get on.

At the mo Im just feeding on demand so he stays in the front room with us til we go to bed.

Also Im co-sleeping with him as thats the only way he will sleep, but I do want him in his own cot when we start trying to get a routine going.

According to mum we left it too long although it felt right to us ... we waited until 12 weeks. From then most nights dh and i therefore can have dinner and talk for 3 hours.
