Waking in night searching for comforter - help!

Hi all,

Before I start, I do appreciate that many people on this board will have far more trouble with babies sleeping at night time but I am a bit stuck and need some advice! My 5 month old daughter has been a brilliant sleeper since she was just 10wks old but we're now having problems. She's been sleeping c.10-11hrs a night, albeit with an interrupted week or so for the 16wk growth spurt but she then reverted back to what was 'normal' for her.

The problem we now have is that we have recently given her a bunny comforter (like this one here) to help her be more settled in her buggy when out and about during the day and it's worked a treat. But we made the error of giving it to her at night about a week ago when she was unsettled with a tummy bug, and we are now having to get up every 2hrs at night to replace it when she's dropped it. She sucks its ears, almost like a dummy, and the effect is almost instant in terms of her dropping off, but I guess when she completes a sleep cyle and wakes without it in her mouth she can't remember what to do.

I am so frustrated because she used to be able to self settle brilliantly, but I now feel like I have broken her with this damn bunny! I thought i loved the stupid thing because of how much it helps her during the day but it has definitely now become a love hate relationship.

Any thoughts on what I can do? Do I deal with it and expect her to learn to find it herself or do I try to wean her off it?
Any thoughts will be appreciated!

attach a rattle to it, she will hear it when she wriggles around looking for it.
