6 mo on the move

My 6 mo (well in 2 days!) has recently mastered turning over onto her front. V.cute and I am v. proud of her, however last nite and so far this evening, she has started to turn over onto her front in her cot, although she can roll over back onto her back I am not sure if this is more luck than judgement!

Is the norm just to flip them back over until such time as they can do it themselves or can get comfy on their fronts? I don't want to really put any sort of wedges in the cot to prevent her from rolling as I feel she should be free to move, is this just a phase of whipping in and out for a while?

Any words of wisdom gratefully received.

Well personally I just let my 2 get on with it. I never turned either of them back over. That would just be too much policing. my 7mo mastered it fairly early and it's usually his preferred sleeping position. Mine too!

I believe that the risk of cot death at this age is greatly reduced anyway as their airways etc are more mature. If it's not too hot, they dont suffer from terrible reflux and you don't smoke around them I really wouldn't sweat it.

Hi Madamebovine, well 2 out of 3 unfortunately, it is over 29 degrees here in Belgium even at this time of nite and she does have reflux (although under medication and she is on solids so it is much better). I have a Tomme Teepee alarm which has the breathing pad on it so I am not so much worried about the SIDS more of the fact that she does moan/whinge when she is on her front. Should I leave her to get used to it - maybe she doesn't want to be on her front hence the moaning......

Oh yes I had a mattress alarm. Marvellous invention but my DS is in a cotbed and kept setting it off as he'd move off the sensor. Naughty boy.

Just trust your instincst. Mine obvioulsy preferred being on their front and didn't complain once they were over. It's only a small window of time before they can shift back over again though.
