We are going to Belle Plagne with Esprit again - the Chalet Hotel Des Deux Domaines

Can't wait.

Now all I need to do is pray that my suitcase and its ski-related contents will finally make it from Geneva.....considering I came home 4 days ago, I don't think that's a lot to ask .

Bloody baggage handlers went on strike on 2nd Jan . Easyjet swore blind it would arrive on 3rd and now tell me it could take 5 days at least.......yesterday they had only retrieved 5% of all baggage left behind

isn't this the perfect excuse to buy some more kit?

tulpe · 05/01/2010 14:22

I like your thinking, greygirl

However, the stuff in my case is almost all new kit Brand new ski boots (used for the first time properly this Christmas), one brand new pair of North Face ski trousers and all my Ice Breaker layers . Together with all my favourite winter clothes (we were visiting family so had to take smarter stuff too). To make it worse, it is chuffing freezing here and I keep thinking about all the lovely warm layers I could be wearing...... . Thankfully, the kids case did make it so they are warm and snuggly

According to the baggage tracing website, my stuff finally arrived at Luton today and is in the process of being delivered.......I shall not be celebrating until it arrives.

DH recommended I called Geneva and asked them to hang on to our bags until 31 Jan so we could collect them en route to Belle Plagne

Belle Plagne is very nice.

Are the baggage handlers still striking? I'm flying to Geneva this weekend.

tulpe · 05/01/2010 20:18

Yeah we were there last February and really fell in love with the place. Tis perfect for a family ski holiday, imo, with lots of easy blues that even my 5 year old can manage

As far as I know, Goth, the strike is over now. It was a 1 day thing. There was nothing on either Easyjet's nor the airports website about the strike on the 2nd - even though it was all over the news. It was total mayhem at Geneva - took us 2 hours of queuing just to check in . Have never known anything like it.

How exciting!!

We are going to Morzine for a long weekend in two weeks and then go to Zell am See in Austria for a week in feb.

My fave holidays!!

fruitymum · 05/01/2010 20:23

hi can I ask how old your kids are ? We are off to Banff in April with an almost 4 year old DD and 8month DS - struggling to find ski gear for DD.

tulpe · 05/01/2010 20:31

Tiredemma - have you been to those resorts before? We were going to try Morzine over Christmas but luckily there was enough snow at the slopes near my FiLs house in Thollon so we didn't have to make the journey.

Would love to hear where everyone else is staying and what those places/accommodation is like .

I think this will be our last year with Esprit as DCs ski with us in afternoons now anyway so no need for snow club and extra childcare really.

Fruity - I have a trespass ski jacket age 5 that I was going to put on ebay. I may have saloppettes as well but can't check till tomorrow. Both have only been worn for one week so very good condition. Let me know if you're interested. Would sell both for £20.

tiredemma · 05/01/2010 20:33

We have been to Zell before, but this will be our first time in Morzine (PIL just moved there so we are going to stay with them.)

fruitymum · 05/01/2010 20:48

Morzine allows you to access Portes du Soleil slopes - many areas linked by lifts, tows, telecabine and bus - all on your ski pass. Lots to explore and slopes to suit everyone some really nice places to eat - Chez Crepie just onto the Swiss side from the bowl where the telecabine(from Lindarets) and many lifts meet . Have skied there several times.Sil has a chalet in that area
Goth - can you give me an idea of size please -DD tall and skinny ? thanks

tiredemma · 05/01/2010 20:52

thnaks fruitymum- thats sounds fab! looking forward to it!

tulpe · 05/01/2010 20:55

fruitymum - have you tried Muddy Puddles? I have bought a fair bit of ski stuff from there for my DCs. It is excellent quality and very generous in size. For example, my DS2 is 5 and also tall and skinny but is still wearing their 3-4yr salopettes. I have gotten two seasons wear out of all their jackets and salopettes for DCs.

TK Maxx now do skiwear online too and usually have a good selection of childrenswear.

Thanks for the info on Morzine, Fruity. Does your SiL rent out her chalet to general public? or is it just a family thing?

Tiredemma - what's Zell like? Are your PILs living there permanently? I love that whole area but have only really explored it in the summer months.

should have said you can buy a pass for just Morzine or the whole of Portes du Soleil - hope you enjoy -sure you will. Plenty of nice restaurents in Morzine for evening eating and a lovely patisserie on the hill for afternoon tea and cake!
