Driving to French alps- hotel en-route?

We're thinking of driving to Geneva this year instead of flying.
Does anyone know of any hotels we could stop in en-route? Probably about 4 or 5 hours from Calais. Something family friendly with a decent restaurant and preferably a bit of charm rather than a motorway type hotel?
thanks!

We always stay at Le Val Moret, which is around 4 hours south of Calais. Although it is built as a motel type hotel and is only a very short distance off the motorway (1km or so) the food in the restaurant is excellent - various menus with regional specialities and there are lots of family rooms.

Good old Val Moret - we always stay there too - it's basic but clean and does a good breakfast. They even sent DDs special blanket which I had forgotten to pack!
Highly recommend!
