Friend of mine goes there every year and loves it. It's quite low IIRC, so need to be careful about when you go?

Do you mean Monthcavin les Coches?
If so, we like it, have been 3 times. It is a small resort, not much night life but v family friendly (which is what counted for us).
We have always been in the Easter holidays, so snow can be sparse and skiing in/out has rarely not always been possible. There are 2 ski schools, ESF and Evolution Somthing, which in our experience was much better: english speaking instructors, good child care outwith lessons etc.
Anyway, I'll shut up, not sure if there are MORE Montchavins??

Montchavin is a very cute little resort, but with good access to a large ski area. Very traditional in feel, the village is very french, and locally run. i.e. the mayor is the baker, who also runs a ski shop etc.
Just a couple of bars, 1 nightclub, and some lovely little restaurants.
