Has anyone taken their DC skiing on their own?

DH loves skiing. He took DS(6) with some ex work colleagues last year which they both enjoyed but the timing hasn't worked out this year.

He's thinking about taking DS and DD(5) - who doesn't want to miss out - on his own in February/March but doesn't know where to go. He wants them to be in ski school in the morning while he skies and then hang out with them, toboggan, swim, etc. in the afternoon.

I am not a natural skier but, more importantly, am 6 months pregnant so I have got a get-out- of-jail-free card this year .

Anyone any suggestions?

Try Family Ski or Skifamille. We went with Family Ski this year and they provide childcare 6 days - ski lessons complete with ski school helpers in the morning and activities in the afternoon - mix of indoor and outdoor including jousting on sledges and building igloos. My ds (4) loved it. I dropped him off at 9.45 at ski school and collected him from the creche at 4.30 every day. The one day I went to collect him after lunch he didn't want to leave!

Ski school helpers provide feedback on ski lessons and then take the children back to the chalet for lunch and activities. You can chose to pick them up early if you wanted to spend the afternoon with them.

The only thing I didn't like was the catered chalet aspect and staying with people you don't know. I struggled being the only single parent in my chalet and didn't find the other guests very sociable. Think I was unlikely as other chalets in the resort were certainly more friendly.

I took my DS when he was 8 and then again when he was 10, on my own with just the 2 of us. The other 2DCs were too young and stayed at home with DH. We just booked a package holiday and both had ski school in the morning and then skied together in the afternoon. Everyone was friendly and we had a great time. However it would be more difficult with a five year old-when he was that age I was a single parent and took my mother just to get him to class etc.You are probably better with having them well catered for, as in MollieO's suggestions.

dh just said he can also offer his services as a ski guide! As we now have a 7 month old he's always eager for people to ski with!

I meant to say thanks to everyone else for their replies. I can't believe the prices of some of the holidays though, especially Scott Dunn . I have been doing things on the cheap for far too many years!

my dh took our older 3 children on his own last year - I was 37 weeks pg at the time and stayed at home with our then 3 year old.

They had a fantastic time! The older children had skiied before, so dh and them had private lessons in the morning, the youngest had lessons in ski school, and then they all spent all afternoon together.

They stayed in a chalet with Esprit and got to know the other families. I think there was a fair amount of child swapping going on in that each parent took other children out with them. and alot of the other parents helped dh out alot.

I'm not sure many showers were had, but they did have a fantastic time. And he got a last minute deal so it wasn't too expensive.
