Off to Hotel Deux Domaines in Belle Plagne with Esprit on 1 Feb . Thank you all so much for all advice/info about resort/hotel.....you have been very patient .

Am more excited about hotel than the skiing, tbh! Plus, it has cost us just £200 more than we paid last year to go to Obergurgl/Chalet Verwall (which altho ok, did not have great rooms).

Have a lovely time. I am very , having not skiied since 1996 (before getting pg with DD1) and am very very missing it.

Actually......just re-checked my figures......it will actually be marginally cheaper than last year! Yay!!!!!

Way-hay! What a result . The snow's great too this year, so you should have a very very lovely time.

Thanks Pesto Monster. How come you haven't returned? I am not a huge ski fan (this is my 3rd proper trip) but I am trying to like it because DCs and DH think its absolutely fab. That's why I wanted to go for somewhere that I would actually want to spend time in if it all goes tits up with the skiing!!

It's the cost of it for us really. It works out so expensive for a week for 4 peeps, once you have factored in all the lift passes and lessons and both DDs would need ski-wear.
I never give up hoping though, that one day we may return to the slopes. When we visited my parents in October, I took the second best option and went dry-skiing at their local slope. It was great fun. The girls went tubing on the nursery slope on those giant tyres. It was FAB

TheRealMrsJohnSimm,

oooh how exciting

sorry to hijack your thread... ...i wanted to ask you something in reply to your reply on my thread about obergurgl - and i thought you might be more likely to see it here!

2 things actually...the "snug" snug...it has a low ceiling?...is that just at the edges or all over? dh is very tall and might be grumpy if he keeps banging his head (i know this from experience!). do you think it will be a problem??? i am wondering whether i should prewarn him...

and secondly, i see from your reply that you get your skis in obergurgl on the monday morning...i guess that is the downside to super civilized and convenient flight times (yay, no getting up at 4am this year!!). when i saw that i suddenly had a small panic attack though...does that i mean we have to get four dcs to the ski hire shop and kitted out on moday morning - all in time for a 9 or 9.30 am ski lesson??!!

sorry to be a pain...

i am getting anxious about going somewhere new in case i don't enjoy it as much as previous years and regret thinking it was time for a change

4kids....the "snug" is on the top floor of the chalet and literally sits in the eaves. So both sides of the room slope down (as far as I remember). It is a bit of a bugger for tall people. You need to tell DH to watch his head at the top of the stairs which lead into the snug. Its a very low doorway and even I managed to smack my head a couple of times (being a paltry 5 foot 6".........perhaps less wine next time!). The rest of the chalet is fine. And to be honest, all the seating is tucked under the sloping parts of the roof so he should be ok once he is seated.

IIRC, our flight was around 2.30pm on the Sunday and we got to the chalet around 6 or 7pm which was why we had to go to the ski shop on Monday. I think we were in the shop by 8.45am and or poss slightly earlier. We were first in the queue . If you have organised lessons with Esprit for DCs do not panic - they will wait for everyone before piling the kids into the minibus and taking them to the ski school areas.

You will enjoy it. I think its a lovely family resort and my DCs had a ball. Unfortunately, I think some of my negativity about the place was caused more by fellow chalet occupants rather than the actual chalet itself.....loooong story involving the perils of skiing with "friends" .

ah thank you

sometimes when a door frame jumps out and whacks dh's head he says some very rude words but if the top of the door is at shoulder height it should be easy to remember to duck unless he is actually looking the other way!

thanks re advice re fetching our gear in the morning!
