skiing in canada/usa with a 16 month old

Hi

Can anyone recommend somewhere stateside to go skiing with a young toddler? We have been to breckenridge and Jackson Hole in the past (pre-baby) but I am not sure I fancy the 16+ hour journey with a wriggle monster! I was thinking somewhere on the east coast might be better? There are 4 adults so we would want some kind of condo. Probably be towards the end of Feb.

We went to Stowe Vermont last Feb and whilst my 2 are a lot oldr I did notice there was a lovely Creche / Nursery you could use for your baby. Flight to Montreal only 7 hours or so and a 2.5 hr drive from there to Stowe. Better to do it that way to avoid immigration queues at Boston / New York. You need to stop at he border and go through the formalities but far less people means a quicker transit. Loads of good value hotels and condos in Stowe and the ski-ing was fantastic!! Very cold though so pack those layers....

We have been to Tremblant (Canada) and smugglers Notch (Vermont) with kids. Both journeys were easy - for smuggs we fly to Boston, staying in the hilton at the airport and then drove the next morning which worked well with our kids. And were for a week in February.

Smuggs had brilliant daycare and lots for kids to do - soft play etc. But the snow was poor and the resort restaurants were not very good. Dh and the older boys liked the skiing, but I found it icy and so didn't like it so much.

Tremblant I found the daycare less good - had it not been number 3, I would probably pulled him out on the first day and not sent him back, but he settled after a few days. It was just the staff were older French Canadians, and previously it had always been younger people from New Zealand/US/Australia who seemed more welcoming and would carry him in and give him a hug etc. Snow was better in Tremblant but very very cold. Also better choice of places to eat out.

we've been to stowe in the summer so can't comment on skiing but there's a fantastic log cabin comples called sterling ridge with snowmobiles etc that organises skiing very near Stowe. We had a great summer holiday there - lovely owners and very nice cabins.
