Jacket ideas for Val Thorens at Easter

I usually ski in January and February and have a lovely, warm jacket that keeps me snug.

For various reasons we’re going to Val Thorens at Easter and I’m worried that my usual coat could be too warm so I’m looking for ideas for a much thinner shell that I can layer up underneath if needed.

Ideally it would have a lift pass pocket on the arm, an inner and outer chest pocket and waist pocket. Armpit vents would be good too. It should be waterproof and windproof. Budget is fairly small - £150 maximum.

Does anyone have any suggestions? TIA

Have a look on vinted?

I often ski at Easter and wear the same North Face jacket (not v bulky) and only have one layer on underneath if it’s warm. Just a tshirt. My jacket was £150 ish from an outlet shop. DS will be in VT just before Easter (21 March with uni - hope that’s not your week!) and will be wearing the same jacket he skied in at NY.

Have a look for a technical shell. If you’re wanting a cooler jacket that you layer as you need it would be something like the arteryx sentinel, norrona lofoten, Patagonia powslayer.
these are more closer to £500-1000
therefore I recommend having a look on Vinted, it’s a technical shell with gtx/goretex that you need.
They’re like a cagoule but much thicker and stiffer.

I got a Dope jacket, might have been from the boarding mange rather than skiing, one of the thinner shell ones, as needed something similar , less bulky and warm- absolutely cracking, can’t reccomend enough. I think was around £180 .

Thanks. Vinted is a good idea, I can always reproof it myself.

I think I’m pretty picky with the pockets that I’d like it to have, but I know what works well for me and the stuff that I carry!

@Johnogroats - we go the week after your DS!

We sometimes go in mid March and will just wear a T-shirt under ski jacket (with a thin fleece in rucksack just in case)
If you’re buying an older jacket off vinted just make sure it has the sleeve pocket for the lift pass. A lot of vintage ski jackets didn’t have that

I have a strobe jacket for when it's warm. It's an over the head one but they do full zip shells too.
