Obertauen. Near Salzburg, Austria

Anyone been? Tips? Kids are 10 and 13, going in UK Feb half term. Any activities, things to do, good cheap ski rental, etc etc much appreciated. Think we’ll be getting transfers from Salzburg airport and staying in a central hotel.

Yes I've been, although was in 2016 and the kids were 7 and 5. It was our first skiing holiday.

Are you skiing? As you mention activities. Is accommodation already booked?

We got a taxi from Salzburg airport, booked in advance.

We stayed at a hotel right on the piste which was fab. I'll try and find out which one it was. You come straight out the boot room into the lift queue.

We stayed in the Austria Alpinhotel. The usual Austrian family hotel formula if you are familiar with that. We had a family room which was basically two interconnecting rooms (so proper beds). Perfect!

Thanks! Yes we’re already booked - will squeezyjet from Gatwick and get transfers, staying in a hotel central to the town, so won’t need to drive once there.

We’ll be skiing/snowboarding a lot, but would value any recommendations for other activities, places to go/see, restaurants etc, if anyone has any please!

I can't imagine doing anything other than skiing, saunaing, eating and drinking on a ski holiday! Obertauern had night skiing when we were there too. So can't help with other activities.

Sorry to disappoint but There’s no cheap ski rental in obertauern - all the ski stores in town were almost exactly the same high price when I visited a few years back. From memory it was around £150 for mid range skis only (no boots/helmet/rental insurance) for a week, but most of the rental kit did seem in reasonable condition.
