Last Minute Family Ski Trip - April Resort Recommendations

Hello everyone,

We are looking to book a last minute family ski trip this April and would love some recommendations based on the below -

  • First time skiing with the children - ages 8, 6 & 3.5 years
  • Mum and Dad both competent skiers
  • Looking for family friendly resorts with everything in one place for ease (ski school for the kids, shops and restaurants, a bit of a buzz with more than just skiing on offer)
  • Flying 4th April weekend for 1 x week
  • Reasonable transfer time if possible to get to the resort
  • Open to country / resort suggestions - must be high I suppose given time of year and snow conditions
  • Would love any recommendations for either great hotels with kids club facilities / pool etc, or apartments / chalets that are kitted out well for families. Have looked at club med but no availability for our dates.
  • Tips and advice for newbie family skiers!

Huge thank you for any intel and suggestions, appreciate we are booking late so can be flexible and if we fail booking for this year, we will book now for next season!

:)

Where have you skied before?

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 18/03/2025 12:06

Go Nordic for reliable snow. Norway or Finland for example.

Tignes/Val D’Isere or Val Thorens

Fly to Geneva and then a 2-3 hour transfer depending on where you go. You’ve got to do a bigger transfer for good snow at Easter!

I liked Levi in Finland. Really good with kids, but not alpine apres ski environment. Which may not be a problem for you. And good snow til May.

Somewhere high, ideally with north facing slopes. Scandinavia could also be a good shout.

Wherever you decide, make sure that lessons are available before you book the rest of the holiday.

Thank you all so much for these suggestions, going to look into them all this afternoon. Have been looking at Trysil in Norway, has anyone any experience of going here with kids??

Puy St Vincent. Gets lots of recommendations on MN for family ski hols. Go first week April.

I have a friend who went to Trysil and really loved it. It sounds pretty small and it may be a bit boring for very good skiers but maybe your focus is to get young skiers up and running and you’re happy just to be back on the slopes for a few hours around the ski school/childcare . My friend was in that category and certainly happy with it. I think some stuff like drinks and eating out is super pricey so maybe be mindful of that — think she went HB

We’ve just booked Trysil for next February half term after hearing lots of people rave about it. We will have a 10 and 9 year old, both have skied twice before, one flies down slopes but one is extremely nervous and friends recommended it as being ideal for nervous skiers. The grading system is meant to be slightly easier too, and there are lots of green runs. If you do go there please report back!

I’ve been skiing in Norway and Sweden but I don’t think it’s great for kids compared to Europe. Have a look at Kinder hotels in Austria, they have everything you can think of to give you a fun holiday with kids. Saalbach Hinterglemm should still have good snow in April.
