Question about ski wear and googles.

My DS (14) is going skiing for the first time at Easter with his school and as I have never skied, I have a couple of questions about clothing which I am hoping someone can help me with:

Base layers - would his sports skins be okay? If they aren’t, would Uniqlo Heattech or M&S Heatgen suffice, or do I need to get him some merino wool thermals?

Googles - I can’t work out what category ski goggles he will need. What category 2 be the best option? He will be in the Dolomites if that has any bearing on it.

Evening clothes - I am assuming that he will only need a couple of changes for the week he is there, as they will be spending each day skiing, please let me know if you think more is needed.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Flowers

There is a similar thread here > Ski equipment for school trip? | Mumsnet

The temperature in mid-April is not likely to be anywhere near as cold as in, say, January so there is less need for thermals and thick fleeces. As long as he has plenty of layers to take on and off, he'll be fine - but no cotton as it doesn't wick and gets cold and clammy.

Goggles - just go to Decathlon and buy whatever is in your budget. Again, it is not likely to be blowing a blizzard at arctic temperatures in April so goggles might not be needed (but better to have them just in case). Just as important, he'll need good sunglasses for when they are sitting around outside at lunchtime, for when they're on the coach and even for skiing. Goggles are horrible on a warm spring day.

A couple of changes of clothes for the evening should suffice - he'll be in ski gear for most of the day, so can wear the same clothes for a few hours each evening.

Skins are fine, he may not even need them at Easter. Casual clothes for travelling and evenings. Most goggles will be fine with uv filter.

Agree with pps. I was skiing last month on a warm day and had one day where I just had a T-shirt under jacket. I was cooking! Next day I needed my skin and was pleased to have a sweat shirt too (cheap decathlon one - not too bulky).

Thanks for your advice @Havanananana , @LIZS @Radiatorvalves. I feel much more confident in purchasing the last few bits for the holiday now.

Also off to read the linked thread, in case there is anything on it that I hadn't thought of!
