Where to go for early Jan snow?

I'm looking to book a ski trip for Jan 26 for my husband and then 19 year old (both intermediate skiers) and me (not ski-ing) Previously we've always been to Morzine but a few years back had really warm weather so looking for somewhere with more guaranteed snow. There are just too many options so I was hoping someone could help with suggestions. We self cater, happy to drive or fly and have always been places where it's a bus to the lift so while ski in/out would be great it's not a requirement! Not big partiers - more like a drink in a bar at the end of the ski day then home for a meal! Budget is down the cheaper end of the spectrum! Val d'Isere and Van Thorens have been mentioned to me as high resorts but I don't know either of them.

Any pointers gratefully received - I'm a big researcher but I just need to narrow it down first!

Val Thorens is a great place to ski, lots of choice of runs and a pleasant village pretty snow-sure as it is high altitude.

Obertauern, Austria

We like Stubai Glacier. Its used by ski teams from November so January is very snow sure.

La Rosiere is a great resort and doesn't tend to be as busy or expensive as others. It's on the French/italian border which is great as you can ski both countries. Breakfast in France then ski into Italy for morning coffee. And it's pretty high so fairly snow sure for that time of year. Lots of great runs for intermediate skiers.

Been To Les Arcs/La Plagne and Cervinia many times and always go around 25th Jan

Always plenty of Snow and accomodation to suite all budgets

Went to Les Arcs 25th Jan 25 - tonnes of snow.

Have had snow issues in the past with low lying resorts in Austria

Find resorts above 1700 metres for good snow.

Biggest annoyance is the rising costs of ski passes >£300 - check the costs before you book especially with a family

Always lots of good quality skis/boots on the fleabay to save on hire costs !
