Anyone been skiing in Chile?

Skiing in Chile near Santiago. We are visiting Valle Nevado and then Portillo but have a day in between free (high season only allows Fri- Fri in VN then Sat-Weds Portillo). Any one else done this? Any advice on where to stay in between that is convenient and doesn’t break the bank? Any other tips gratefully received. Travelling with husband and 2 older teens. Many thanks ☺️

Yes I did this years ago and it was wonderful. I'm place marking now and will try to find details of where we stayed later but essentially it was a hostel with lift passes bought by the day, and we hired everything in Santiago.

When are you planning to go? Is it part of a bigger trip? We are looking at coming down from Brazil so deciding which ski resort is best.

thanks so much for all that info! Especially the altitude advice which I had not considered. Also we are now going to the Cajon del Maipo too on your recommendation. We are very excited and are hoping now for good snow!

we are probably going to Portillo, Valle Nevado and Nevados de Chillan, but I have heard there are also a lot of amazing places in Argentina too. We have only ever skied in Europe before so will be quite a change! We picked the above Chilean resorts because the first two are easily accessible from Santiago and the last involves a 6 hour train journey down south so we can see some more of the country and also visit more hot springs and see some volcanos :) - but there are other places in Chile to ski, but from what I have found out these three we have chosen sound like they are some of the biggest resorts. Let me know what you find out please :) ps Would love see Brazil too

sounds amazing. Are you 'just' going for the skiing. I'm being a bit greedy to try and tag it on to a bigger trip, but not sure we'd ever do it as a standalone. ... although now I've read your post I'm realising I'm being silly!
