I want something proper but stylish!

Not Patagonia!

Following/bumping! I've just ordered a bunch of stuff but no idea what'll be good or not as I've not been skiing before 😂😬

Planks! https://www.planksclothing.com/ Their ski pants are amaaaaaazing. Really long (but come with a clever pulley thingy that you can use to shorten them if you need) and high waisted so you don't get cold back on a chairlift. Which suits my sensible middle age but they also look cool (without looking like I'm trying to be down with the kidzz) Strobe also good. https://uk.strobebrand.com/ I have a shell overjacket which is perfect for Easter skiing.

PickleSarnie · 07/01/2025 21:11

Oh, and snow finel for base and mid layers. https://snowfinel.co.uk/ Spendy but really good. This makes me sound really scudgy but you can wear them lots of times without having to wash because merino doesn't get smelly. Whereas synthetic fabrics you need a new layer every day.

Merino baselayers, jumpers and accessories for skiers.

Designed by skiers and worn by Olympians, Snow Finel Ski Wear is made from merino wool and designed for comfort, durability and style. The product range includes baselayers, jumpers, gilets, snoods, hats and gloves to suit the mountain conditions and s...

Sloobie is a new brand and worth looking at - designed by a UK female designer and good stuff.

Depends on your budget a little bit. For someone who spends far too much on some things, and would quite happily buy whatever fits best and is the best quality, I actually really like Decathlon’s higher end kit. I also got a decent priced outfit from Siroko this year after trying some of their cycling stuff over the summer and was impressed. Might not have the ‘right’ logo in some places I’m sure, but we were out on a glacier pre Xmas and it all held up well to the conditions.

Im going to try Oosc which I have seen online, who have some real garish retro designs. Again, not to everyone’s tastes but I find them rather fun. I imagine you need a certain ski ability to pull them off on the slopes.

Radiatorvalves · 08/01/2025 06:51

North Face from the outlet store or try the website Sport Pursuit. I got my son a kilpi jacket which was great on our last ski trip.

I have been lusting after the oosc rainbow ski suit for years. But my skiing ability is going down every year as my knees get creakier and my appetite for risk reduces and I'm not sure I want to be drawing so much attention to myself. So I bought their rainbow baselayers instead.

How do you find the base layers? Are they mega compression or a bit loose and flappy. I like a good stretchy base layer (basically should I size up or down)

Toomuchleopard · 08/01/2025 10:37

I have a jacket and trousers from Montec which is a more sporty/outdoorsy look then I have a much warmer one from Poirre Blanc which is more of a luxe look. My daughter has a gorgeous silver jacket from Goldbergh. I watched a reel of very stylish people in the Follie Douce and it was all Goldbergh and Perfect Moment.

LaPalmaLlama · 08/01/2025 10:41

Yeah DS got a Montec jacket and it’s very nice/ stylish. His is basically a shell though so need layers and also it is quite a slim fit. If you were chunkier build ( like me) it probably wouldn’t work. Ski pants- I love Helly Hanson and Schoffel- not really new ideas though. Sorry. Dd asked for a Moncleur jacket- er, dream on 🤣🤣🤣

I've got a picture ski jacket and I love it! I wear it out and about normally and get loads of compliments.

Have been looking at these guys. Look great.

Those brands are a bit posey imo

I got a nice jumpsuit and boots from Pajar this year! Neither bought for skiing so I don’t know if they’re the ‘in’ brand for ski wear!

Long and definitely not compression. But not loose either. The leggings I like because they are high waisted - although I usually ski in Easter so rarely wear leggings. I think they'd make decent gym leggings but, being mainly white, they're not squat proof and no one needs to see my knickers! Nice long arms on the top but I prefer my merino base layers. I love the look of the oosc ones though!!

PickleSarnie · 08/01/2025 11:04

Facebook keeps showing me ads for Perfect moment. I've no clue where Facebook has got the idea I have 800quid to spend on a jacket though!

I looooooove the look of their merino jumpers. But I also don't have £300 to spend on a jumper my husband will probably chuck in the tumbledryer and ruin almost immediately.

I looked at a Montcler jacket (that I didn’t particularly like) and nearly wiped out in Harvey Nicks. Stratospheric prices.

Second this brand, I love my base and mid layers. And they do great end of season sales too

Well people who wear those have never done a tough day skiing. Most likely took the lift to the nearest Folie Douche whilst long suffering husband carries the skis, and then they might attempt to ski down at the end but might also just take the lift back down. Price aside, They all look so impractical!

I did see a few in the Folie 😁. I stood beside a few in the lift lines though, so you never know.

I also saw quite a bit of https://www.henri-duvillard.com/en/categories/women/ski/veste-ski

But I know for a fact some that wear that ski pretty hard 😉

I know that it doesn't help that I'm neither thin nor glossy enough for one of these thousand pound ski suits but where do you put your stuff?!? Lip balm, sun screen, sunglasses, multiple piste maps (some not even from the resort you're skiing in), random squished cereal bar (just in case), hat to cover helmet hair whilst drinking vin chaud on a terrace. Does one also need staff for all the carrying of stuff?!

Also, how do you wee?!? 3000metres up in winter having to get half naked in a damp, cramped loo?! I have added "too middle aged and boringly practical" to the reasons why I'm not going to invest in one of these.....
