Rukka for skiing?

Beginner ski family - husband experienced snowboard but myself and kids are still green, nice easy slope seekers. Have been looking at resorts for some nice long easy green runs and Bulgaria has come up as well as Rukka in Finland. Looks snow sure, not super mountainous and ticks most boxes but unsure as never have heard of it before. Anyone have experience of the resort? We’d be going for a long weekend so don’t need loads of night life etc.

Oh my god I LOVED Ruka when the kids were little. We would ride the lifts looking at the trees covered in snow and find shape and faces. There are huts on the slopes with open fires that you can toast sausages and marshmallows and even braziers in some places. The seats are warm and covered, there are lovely little runs with Rosa and Rudolph. And so much snow.

You can book to visit Santa at the local tourist information and I can tell you, that man is def the real Father Christmas (he was lovely). We also went to do a huskie ride and that was great fun (they can poo and run, a highlight for my 5 year old)

Ski lessons are in English and quite short, but the easy short runs mean little ones cope well. Skiing under sodium lights and seeing the sun rise over the hills whilst skiing was beautiful.

Oh you must go! It can be cold but layers and hut stops made it perfectly fine.

Where are you thinking of staying as we liked the village. We self catered and the food was good in the supermarket, but the pizza place relatively well priced. Be aware that from some of the huts the only way up the hill is by T bar, so the village might be easiest for a beginner

Andorra is also very good for family friendly skiing.

Also been to Rukka. Great snow, good quality clean accommodation. Great resort for beginners as really accessible - almost all the lifts have an easy slope coming off them. Reasonable food and well priced.
Downsides - extremely cold. We went last year and it was -20odd the entire time we were there. Coldest we saw during the day was -28. The air was glittery as all the water vapour was frozen.

There was a thread last year about Ruka https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/ski-snowboarding/4727891-ruka-christmas-23

The only downside with Finland is it can get brutally cold. This February it was the coldest I've experienced -23 to -27 for 5 days. Normally it's -15 or so, that's much less tough.

It's a great little resort, not many T bars left , mostly chair lifts (though some are quite old and slow). Lessons are in English.
