What’s the snow like

We were ill at Christmas so couldn’t go and decided not to go half term. Debating Easter — anyone been in Montgenevre or Portes du Soleil resorts recently. It’s hard to tell from the web cams whether to bother.

We were in Montgenevre at half term. Snow wasn't great but better than where we were in Italy. I think there's been significant amounts of snow since then though. My DS is down the road in Pila and they've had a lot of snow since half term. Worth a punt probably!

No point making a decision based on snow now. There could be loads of snow or loads of rain between now and then and will change the position radically. I follow the Morzine page and apparently they’ve just had a well needed top up. Personally I think PDS is a bit low for a reliable Easter trip but I know people who always seem to ski powder in April so it can’t be that bad.
if You are in two minds and it really matters to you it’s always safer to stay home - we’ve had two excellent early April weeks so probably due for a disappointment. Me, I’ll be going come what may as I wouldn’t miss it for anything!

Just saw a Morzine fb update saying lower slopes closed and access down is via telecabine. You need to go high at Easter anyway.

My dc was in pds two weeks ago. They got a big dump mid week, so conditions were really good after that. I follow Morzine source magazine on fb and they post daily photos of live runs etc. it’s looking good at the mo, so tempting!….

Not in either of those but am in Tignes at the moment. The snow conditions are fantastic!

Tignes/Val conditions are great and the snow here will see us through until the end of the season decently! Need to go as high as poss for Easter, Tignes/Val or VT.

We're going to Flaine the week after Easter with UCPA. The snow report at the moment is saying bare lower slopes but +4m at the top. I'm happy enough on the high runs but hoping for some cover of the nursery slopes for the DC. Might have to splash out for half term next year or head further north - Norway could be the best bet? Just wondering when I can justify a Japan trip, DC need to be a bit more comfortable to appreciate it most likely.

We're going to Les Arcs on Easter Saturday. It's still looking good there, though a top up would be welcomed, I'm sure.

We're off to Montgenevre at Easter. It's usually OK as it's mostly north facing and fairly high. It will likely be spring skiing, soft in the afternoons but hopefully good in the mornings. They've had good recent snow although it's a bit mild right now. Long range forecast hinting at cold again towards Easter but too early to tell. I quite like a warm sunny ski day.

A friend is just back from Montgenèvre. Said it was fab but very hot! We will be going second week April… fingers crossed!

I would choose between Montgenevre, Val D’Isere, Tignes, Les Arcs and Val Thorens. This season is not typical as there has been a lot of precipitation but a lot of it has fallen as rain below 1800m and this week the snow/rain limit was around 2300 in the Tarentaise. Conditions above 1800m are good and excellent higher up. However below that you will find some runs shut and very heavy skiing from lunchtime onwards this week. It is due to be colder next week so you should be safe booking a high altitude resort now. I definitely wouldn’t book a low resort like morzine for Easter as the higher slopes in avoriaz will probably be crowded with everyone from the villages taking the lift up.
