We are off to Courmayeur next week, it's looking like it's going to get colder which is good news

Snow due Friday and Saturday which is good. Looking ok in Vars…

We're off to Sauze d'Oulx on Friday. Due to snow Friday/Saturday/Sunday according to the forecast. 🙏

Hope it's right as looks like most places looking a bit dire as it's been really warm the last week.

yes keeping everything crossed....

I hiked in the Jura yesterday at 1,300m. There is no snow there, some patches in the shade and some packed ice where it has been moved onto the piste weeks ago where there was snow to move.

We were at a similar altitude in the Alps last week and there was some snow cover and it was cold enough to freeze Champex Lac at 1,466m

It is not looking good in any direction from here.. slope conditions are icy and there are reports of many accidents.

I’m in Saas Fee at the moment and it’s definitely hardpack at the moment. We likened it to the snow dome earlier, when the snow has all been scraped off the plastic base. That being said, it’s fully skiable top to bottom and everything is open. Due snow on the weekend so might be a different picture next week but this week has been warm. What’s worst actually is ice in resort/at restaurants where there’s freeze thaw on top of concrete. Some challenging lunch stops in race boots.

Any updates from anyone?

Lots of fresh powder above 1800 in southern French alps. Spent much of the day in the piste not on it! Visibility up top not great and thin at bottom but a great first day!

Saalbach today:

2,000m - heavy snow, but a very soft base. Skiing OK but hard work;
1,500m - (mid-station level) sleet and snow, slushy base. Still OK to ski on, but getting wet;
1,000m - (village level) peeing down with rain, and puddles amongst the deep slush. Kaiserschmarrn and hot chocolate preferable to this crap 😬

Le Grand Massif was looking pretty bleak - worth looking at several webcams of your resort to get a good idea of snow.

Just finished our week in Courmayeur.

My word we have been lucky.

Blue skies and sunshine all week and snow on pistes and on the mountain deep and plentiful. None in the resort, but enough fell the week before we arrived to make conditions nigh on perfect.

Today we saw the first signs of slush and ice patches so they definitely need some more for anyone coming tomorrow.

Just finishing a week in Andorra (Grandvalira) and its pretty warm. They had good snow fall overnight on Friday night which made for lovely skiing this morning. But once the sun came out, half the slopes became slushy. The other half were still good to ski on though.

I don't think it's looking promising for the rest of the season.

Just leaving Lech. Wonderful week for us, but St Anton’s lower slopes were not ideal. Big dump due Monday/Tuesday, though.

massistar · 19/02/2024 09:42

We had a tricky week conditions wise in Sauze d'Oulx. It snowed on the Saturday so Sunday was fab but then got gradually warmer as the week went on. Lots of ice and lots of slush on run back to the village. We skiied over to Montgenevre on our last day from Claviere and the snow was loads better. They desperately need another big dump in most places.

Raining in Rauris (Austria). Pretty horrible. Up top is better for snow but icy and very churned up by the afternoon.

ChateauMargaux · 19/02/2024 17:06

Not bad in 3Vallées, given the circumstances. Snow forecast showing 15cm towards the end of the week.. though I am never sure I trust that!!

We're in Montgenèvre this week. Most of the runs are open but it is all hard packed and icy in places. It's slushy in the afternoon towards the base but to be honest I prefer that to the ice. Overall it's okaaaay but not great and skiing feels a little less safe that usual.

They were forecasting a dump of snow staring Thursday night but that now seems to have changed. It's definitely needed.

Rainbowshit · 20/02/2024 07:55

We're just back from Norway. Absolutely tonnes of snow. Two big 25cm dumps while we were there but was plenty before that anyway.

abricotine · 21/02/2024 08:25

Looks like the Alps has had a lovely top up this week ❄
