Core strength exercises

Upper body/arm workouts

You've got plenty of time. Get moving and do some aerobics and circuits classes.

massistar · 22/01/2024 11:19

Squat, squat and squat some more! Plus a bit of cardio. How good a skiier are you? I had a very unfit friend but because she's been skiing since she was a small child it was all absolutely effortless for her. Sigh. I'm much fitter but because there was more effort involved I'd get the aching muscles and she wouldn't!

idontlikealdi · 22/01/2024 11:21

Squats and wall sits., You need strong legs to be able to get yourself up whn you inevitably fall.

Chemenger · 22/01/2024 11:24

I went back to skiing as a fat 50 something having not skied for decades. I enjoyed it but I found getting back on my feet after falling really hard, especially on gentle slopes. I would work on strengthening legs and shoulders to be sure you can right yourself. Or do what I did and take your skis off and thrash around like an elephant stranded in a mud wallow.

Codlingmoths · 22/01/2024 11:25

Squats squats squats. Squat with hand weights and touch the ground between your feet, stand and raise weights above head, squat and touch one weight to outside left leg, stand and raise weight, squat and touch right weight to outside right foot. Etc etc etc!!

Have a look at Caroline girvan on you tube. You will have horrendous doms but better now than on your holiday

rookiemere · 22/01/2024 12:52

I'm 53 and just back from a week skiing.
Much harder work than I had expected and had to finish most days by 3.
I'm reasonably fit - do a couple of classes a week and weekly parkrun- I reckon you need to add in daily wall sits, squats and lunges, plus some core work.

Radiatorvalves · 22/01/2024 13:25

Cycling is also great.

NisekoWhistler · 22/01/2024 13:27

Agree with the suggestions for watching Caroline girvan in you tube. Or search ski fitness on YouTube, you've got plenty of time!
Be sure to practice putting your regular shoes on standing up. Also priactoc just getting up and down from the floor with ease. If this is tricky now, benchmark every week on how you're improving. Hope that helps

Squats, core, lunges.

but you’ll get fit whilst you’ll ski, then you ruin it by eating all the pastries and crepes.

TheStormynight · 02/02/2024 22:01

I’ve been doing plank every night over the last 3 weeks and tripled my time already. Plus lunges and squats even just 20-30 every night soon add up.,
