Club Med Ski Recommendations

Just on our way back from a new years ski trip with kids at Club Med in Canada. They had never skied before and loved it. Me, mum, is a novice and dad is super advanced instructor level skier. Whilst he is an amazing skier he is a poor teacher so having the included lessons worked great for us as we could all ski at levels that worked for us.

We think the Club Med format was perfect and looking at resorts in Europe for Easter. Has anyone been to any of them they’d recommend? I can see there are quite a few but i’m guessing like any chain some are nicer than others, some will be at better mountains etc?

Alternatively if there are any other locations / setups in Europe with a similar thing of included lessons / ski in ski out etc I’d welcome ideas?

The Club Med in Tignes Val Claret was brand new last season. The one in Les Arcs is also very good and the one in Val Thorens. All quite big. 😀

Any preference / pros and cons between the 3? Xx

I think if pushed I personally would choose Val Thorens as I love the ski area and the hotel is in the centre of the resort. However the resort is likely to be very busy at Easter and doesn't have any trees if the weather is bad (nor does Tignes). Whereas the Les Arcs one is just above Arc 1600 and you can ski over to Vallandry if bad weather to enjoy some tree lined runs. Some beginners find the skiing in Tignes and Val Thorens tricker than Les Arcs.

Personally I would choose VT or Tignes for the altitude at Easter.

We went to Samoens last year and going to Alpe D'Huez in 3 weeks. Then hopefully Les Arcs next year. Think Samoens is too low for Easter skiing but I might be wrong as I'm not sure when Easter is this year. We went second week of March last year and got lucky with the snow. I really liked the hotel though. I'll update with my view on Alpe D'Huez when we come back.

We went to Peisey-Vallandry last year and loved it. It would be high enough for Easter skiing and it’s a fab area.

VT would be good but if your kids are under the age of 12 they don’t offer ski lessons, you’d need to book separately from CM and that might mean you miss lessons because of dropping them off. Also I’m not totally sure but I don’t think they have a kids club either, if that would be important to you.

Les Arcs 2000 is great (I worked for CM for 10 years and know many resorts)

EG I would not reccomend Chamonix. Personally, without DCs I loved St Moritz!

We went to ClubMed Serre Chevalier the first week in February and had a great time. It was our fourth stay there. A new gondola was opened this season allowing fast access right up the mountain. I skied until I was 72 but now just enjoy the CM atmosphere, food and general comfort. The rest of the family found their ski guide/instructor brilliant and despite all being strong experienced skiers learnt a lot. Our 7 year old grandson loved the kids’ lessons and entertainment. On the final day he skied all the way down the mountain on a red run, supervised by his cousins and not without the odd tear and sit down in the snow but delighted that he did it.
We are planning to return next year. Apparently it is being refurbished this summer, just hope the prices don’t go up too far.😟
