Small, snow sure family friendly resort?

We're looking to do our first skiing holiday as a family. DS8 has had lessons on dry slope but DD6 hasn't done anything. Can anyone recommend a small, fairly snow sure resort / town? Doesn't need to have a lot of runs. Just looking to introduce the kids to a snow holiday. Bonus if we could drive there from UK! Thanks

Look at Valfejus and Val Vencis in France. Smaller resorts, often with access to other smaller resort lifts. Easy drive from Calais. Not sure how snow sure they are.

Can’t really drive there but Katschberg in Austria is absolutely perfect for what you need.

Rauris in Austria - see details here >Best Family Ski Resort Holidays | Mumsnet

You could drive, but it's a long journey in the winter (14 hrs + from Calais or Hook of Holland/Amsterdam). Otherwise, there are numerous flights from the UK to Salzburg - Ryanair, BA, Easyjet, Jet2, WizzAir - and then an easy train ride or bus to Zell am See, and a short taxi side for the last part of the journey.

Montgenevre on French/italian boarder. I’ve driven from Yorkshire but I wouldn’t like to repeat as I’m dreadful in the car.

small town, but has a spa and a nice amount of apres, good hill for sledging in evening and a toboggan run that is fun. Good learner area. More affordable than much of France.

i worked for Ski Miquel who do chalet hotel style holidays, so you get the chalet feel but shared with other groups/families.

Can’t drive there but really recommend Ruka in Finland! Absolutely snowsure (it’s bloody cold - minus ten or colder is not unusual), small resort, very friendly, and lots of activities beyond skiing, such as dog sledding.

Only downside is not much apres ski if you’re into that.

Les Orres, Vars, Puy St Vincent or the Queyras resorts. 9 hours drive from Calais.

That Rauris quote in the article is mine 😂

Came here to suggest it to you. Funnily enough, I also spotted it in the top 10 best value for families list by the Post Office this morning, too.

Mine were 6 and 8 when we visited for the first time, and it was perfect for them. Happy to offer advice about ski school and accommodation, if you like. We've now been twice.

Son recommends this. Children love pizza and pasta so that's a plus. It's small, friendly. Locals use it.

Saas Fe in Switzerland. Gorgeous little car free resort. Even last year when the snow was absolute pants everywhere else it had good snow 16 December.

Pila in Italy is very good. Can stay in Aosta town and get the gondola up every day. There is a free car park at this gondola. Alternatively stay up at Pila itself. Small, snow sure resort and easy drive from Calais.
