We are heading to Bardonecchia the end of February. Has anyone been?

Cheap pizza! Only been in the summer and it seemed a nice place. Have fun.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 18/12/2023 21:17

We went last year. What would you like to know?

Pennyapple · 18/12/2023 21:28

@Muchtoomuchtodo thanks so much! We are going with our 10 & 11 year olds. We are all beginners staying in the Campo Smith apartments with Crystal. The dc are booked in to ski school through Crystal & DH & I are doing the adult ski school. I'm getting very nervous..
Just wondering

  • what are the restaurants like?
  • apres ski for a glass of wine /hot chocolate for the kida.
-is the town nice? -what else is there to do? Any other advice or tips? Is there more to do beside skiing?

Was mentioned in the Times as best value resort this weekend!

Went for a day trip (from Turin) a few years ago. The kids saw 'real snow!' and loved it. The town was beautiful. Not a lot open in the afternoons , but by the evening lots of cafes, bars and restaurants. Very friendly people too.

Pennyapple · 19/12/2023 00:20

@rebelrebbel is Turin worth a trip? I don't think we have ski school on the Saturday & there is a train station in Bardonecchia.

@Pennyapple there are a couple of bars restaurants that do apres right outside your apartments, especially Haralds. I don’t think it goes on late though. Ski schools all meet right outside your apartments too. Collect your equipment as soon as you can when you arrive, it’s the epitome of organised chaos!

Town is about a 15 minute walk from where you are, the old town is lovely, just ignore the communist looking accommodation block from the winter olympics on the way past! You can use the free busses to get there and back. There is one particularly great bakery that sells doughnuts at 4pm every day!

we didn’t do much other than ski tbh, though the alpine coaster is good fun (right by where you’re staying).

hope you have a great time

Pennyapple · 19/12/2023 07:49

@Muchtoomuchtodo would you go back? Was there many families? hoping the dc might make some friends in the apartment. Worried about collecting our gear as we arrive in the Sunday night so have to collect Monday morning, don't want to be late for ski school! Are the ski schools good there?
What's harald's bar like? Hope they carer to fussy eaters!

Gosh this brings back memories. I went skiing there almost 40 years ago. I still recall a meal I ate, it's in my top ten meals I've eaten EVER! The skiing was great although it did rain. Sorry I can't be more helpful .

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/12/2023 12:50

It’s a pretty small ski area so enough for a week but we wouldn’t rush back too soon as there’s so many other places to explore

we didn’t use ski school so can’t help with that sorry.

we stayed in a chalet in town with a group of friends so I’m not sure about your set up in the apartments

Haralds has a really varied menu so there ought to be something suitable!

weegiemum · 19/12/2023 12:53

I went there in the summer years ago for a wedding (friend from uni married a woman from the town) and it's a lovely little place!

You shared that last night OP 🤔🤔

Pennyapple · 19/12/2023 13:24

@JamieKnows I'm so sorry I didn't realise I shared it! @

My son is on his first uni ski trip and while he’s never skied in bardoneccia it was where he had his first massive pizza at the age of 3. Ate almost all and it cost €3. Great value indeed. They were also brilliant with toddlers!
