French Hotel With a View!

A bit specific, but we are looking for a French resort / hotel with a view. We've been to a lovely hotel in Saalbach-Hinterglemm before that is on the edge of town & overlooks the valley - you can sit on the balcony and watch the snowploughs at night. All very cosy etc.

BUT... dd is doing French A-Level so we need to go to France this year. Has anyone been somewhere similar ever? If so, let me know - thanks.

Any other specifics about the style of resort you'd like? And what amenities you'd like the hotel to have?

The Chantel residences in Arc 1800 would meet the view requirements, but it's self catering.

Alternatively, there are a number of hotels in Arc 1950 that would also fit that brief and are a little more luxurious.

Thanks - a decent pool or hot tubs and an ice rink nearby would be great. Probably not self catering, I think. Also, a decent choice of local restaurants - thanks.

Budget?? If there isn’t really one then The Refuge in Val d’Isere. Absolutely stunning, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. But then I did pay 58 Euros for a lasagna in the restaurant (I didn’t stay there!) so it’s definitely a place you need deep pockets for.

It has never occurred to me to consider the view from my hotel window when I book a ski trip! (maybe it would if I was a non-skier and was going to spend time there in the day...)
It's dark when you get up, and may well be dark when you come back. So many other things would be high up my list - proximity to lifts/town, quality of the food, comfort/space in the room, other facilities I may want to use (pool, sauna etc). A view of the mountains is a lovely bonus, but the ski holiday we had where the room was at the back of the hotel and we could see the bins was one of the best ski trips we've had!

Thank you all - we like sitting out with a drink in the evening watching the snowploughs go about their piste-bashing business. dh doesn't ski, so we need to build in some social time. Not sure about a €58 lasagne though - did it contain a small gold bar?

Honestly?? DH makes a better lasagna 🤣

But I know EXACTLY what you mean. We stayed in the Barme de l’Ours hotel in Val d’Isere one year when the ski world cup was on and we watched the opening thingy which ski instructors skiing at night with lights and it was magical then watching the piste bashers go over and over, then joking the next day about why it was so fucking icy! Love it. Anywhere ski in-ski out with a mountain view should suffice though, I don’t think you need highly specific recommendations or anything to find a view!
