Eye wear - prescription goggles?

What do people who need to wear prescription glasses do when skiing?

I prefer ski goggles and I am not sure if/how this would work?

I have prescription sunglasses but these will fog easily in damp conditions and aren't protective enough.

There are several options:

  1. Special ski goggles for glasses wearers that are deep enough to fit over your normal prescription glasses;
  2. Contact lenses + non-prescription skiing sunglasses;
  3. Skiing sunglasses with prescription lenses (these are not available for all prescriptions, but manufacturers such as Oakley have a good range);
  4. Special ski goggles that have inserts for special prescription lenses.

You can get normal goggles that you use inserts for. Both my DH and DD have inserts and nothing special about their goggles.

Really helpful answers thanks - where do you get the inserts from?

My son has some OTG goggles and he’s very happy with them: https://amzn.eu/d/62xpg3k
they were a lot cheaper than his previous pair too!

I sorted this by having laser correction. Not necessarily appropriate for you, but it was life changing for swimming, snorkelling and skiing. Expensive initial outlay but has saved a fortune.

Have you spoken to you optician? That would be my first port of call. The link to the Amazon goggles look a good option, though investigate the type of lens you would want first.

I bought some amazing ski goggles that fit perfectly over glasses. Most ski resort shops will stock them. As pp said, the padding is thick so they leave room for specs and there is even a cutout in the foam padding for the arms of your specs so there is no uncomfortable pressure. Bliss.

I tend to use contact lenses for skiing. But I think I'd try Over The Glasses (OTG) goggles if I couldn't wear lenses.

Thanks all for being super helpful Flowers

OTG works fine, allowing you to wear glasses inside. It’s just that I often scare myself… I’m afraid of falling and having the glasses shatter inside. As for contact lenses, my eyes tend to feel really dry. After considering many options, I finally went with inserts. I’m using this one, and it feels great.

DS wears his normal glasses and a helmet with flip down visor (a Cebe Fireball, but there are loads of brands doing it these days.)

Good news for myopic skiers!

哦!这太好了,我不必强迫我的眼镜戴进护目镜,这会让我的鼻子不舒服

I have purchased similar products, which greatly enhanced my skiing experience.

I used to just wear my glasses inside my goggles, they weren't special goggles, just normal ones. If you're glasses aren't too big, have you tried them in your goggles to see if they will fit.
Then a couple of years ago I got a new helmet with a visor, so I don't need goggles anymore and I'd think any glasses, even big ones would fit under a visor.

AlwaysLookOnTheSnarkSide · 22/01/2025 07:13

I just wear ordinary goggles and they fit over my glasses fine.

Some glasses can indeed be put inside goggles, but it is easy to scratch the lenses of my goggles. For this reason, I have thought of many ways to repair the lenses.😭😭😭

Same as me.

Oh I never thought about scratching the goggles. Mine seem ok. The visor helmet idea sounds good
