Where to ski near Lake Garda in February?

Hi to all you knowledgable Mumsnetters.

We will be unexpectedly staying in Lake Garda for 5 days during the February half term. My teenage daughter is a keen skier and I would love to combine the trip with a few days of skiing if at all possible. Unfortunately, the hotel we will be staying in (Riel Hotel) is quite far from the mountains at least according to Google maps.

Can anyone recommend any near-ish skiing? We’re willing to travel, but preferably not much longer than an hour each way. If you know of any buses or other transport I could book to any slopes that would be even more fantastic.

Thank you in advance 😊

I think you'll struggle to get to the main ski resorts in an hour but I did see this which could be worth a go though I've never skiied there myself!

Madonna - Its not on the doorstep but its quite close by, has large varied ski area and looks beautiful - I have wanted to go there for years!

Also Folgaria. Smaller than Madonna though

The OP appears to be staying in Sirmione, which is at the very south of Lake Garda. Folgaria and Madonna would perhaps be an option from the very north of the lake, but from Sirmione would take over 2 hours by car in the winter - and probably much longer by public transport.

Thank you all for the advice! This trip was part of a "Wowcher mystery holiday" deal 😂 so the place and hotel were not our choice but we thought we'd try to get a bit of skiing in given that we'll be there in February and of course Lake Garda should be beautiful any time of year.

From what I can see our only option will be the Malcesine Monte Baldo ski resort. It'll probably take us absolute ages to get there, but I thought I'd try anyway. Not sure if any of you lovely people know this place.

Malcesine Monte Baldo is a tiny ski area - just 9 km in total. I've only been there is the summer, and the view on a clear day is spectacular, but it takes an age to get up the mountain on the old cable cars. I'm not sure I'd bother just for the skiing.

I have no idea how you'd get there from Sirmione - perhaps there's a bus around the lake. Otherwise a car would take probably over an hour.

Madonna Di Campiglio as mentioned above is lovely, but too far from where you’re staying. We ski there every year and are going during the Feb half term. Just be aware that it will be very busy as it’s also Italian carnevale week plus French half term. We usually book the night before arrival into a cheap hotel just outside the ski area, so that DH can hit the slopes early.
