Leaving on 26th December - can’t find any packages

Hi there. I haven’t been skiing for years but we’ve decided we’d love to take out DS (8) this year. We’d like to be with family for Christmas but head off straight after (DH has to be back at work for year end so we can’t go first week of Jan).
I’m struggling to find any packages to anywhere in Europe on places like Crystal and Inghams that leave on 26th or even 27th. Although I can find some flights online so I know that there are flights to various places that day. Wondering if anyone knows any operators who it would be worth me looking at? Or alternatively any resorts that have relatively easy transfers from the airport that we could just do separately (not keen on hiring a car). Hoping to find something pretty and with a decent ski school for my son. I’m really happy to organise it separately myself.
I’ve been looking at Slovenia Kranjska Gora but it’s not the easiest to understand about transfers and the ski schools. Any advice at all that you have for us complete novices would be much appreciated! Thanks a lot.

It’s because 26/27 are Tuesday/Wednesday and almost all ski holidays are sat-sat or sun -sun. I’m sure you’ll be able to put something together for a Tuesday/Boxing Day departure, but I think you might struggle to find a package.

Thanks a lot - that’s helpful. I did wonder if that was the case. I’ll put in some more research and try to organise it separately.

I’d pick a French resort an hour/2 hours or so from Geneva and work from there - they’ll be flights available into there on this dates and then booking.com for accommodation. Pretty much all resorts have links to ski schools etc BUT you l will probably find that these run Sunday-Friday so you’ll probably need private lessons if you want lessons.

Have you looked at crystal? I'm sure they have 27th France departures.
Else the major airlines have flights to France and Austria for the 27th.

hmm, people who chose low French resorts after Christmas last year did not have a good experience due to a serious lack of snow. After the first falls mid Dec it didn’t fall again until a week into Jan. Hopefully this season will be better but it’s not a risk I’d want to take. It really is not the best time for beginners with short days, less snow sure and busy crowds but appreciate some people are very restricted when to travel.

Thanks everyone - this is really helpful. Really good to know that it’s not the best time to go. I did check Crystal and can’t see anything apart from Canada midweek. I think I was just hoping it would be a bit of a magical change of scene for us around Christmas because we had an awful Christmas last year sadly due to losing my father. But it might be best I look at doing something else instead and try to ski a bit later. Thanks very much again for the replies - I appreciate them.

Would recommend Easter holidays and a high resort (Tignes/Val Thorens in France) for a nice, warm and easy ski trip! Especially for the first time with a child. Much better than Feb half term if you decide to book later in the season.

Might be worth looking at skiweekends.com as they do short breaks that start on various days and you might be able to tag two short breaks together? Or take a look at sunweb, as they sometimes have midweek accommodation offers, if you source your own flights.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 31/08/2023 21:10

If you do find accommodation (which I think is unlikely), lessons are likely to be very tricky to source half way through a peak week

I would go over Christmas to be honest and get a sat-sat. It could be a lovely special Christmas especially if you went to a more picturesque resort. You’ll want to go high though early season, consider somewhere with glacier skiing, ideally somewhere with summer skiing will offer something safe in December.
