Solo Ski Companies- anyone been ?

I usually go away for a long weekend with some friends, but logistically it's getting harder to organise and I would rather not have the responsibility, as my friends have quite specific requirements.DH has tried skiing many times and decided it's not for him, which is absolutely fair enough.

Last December I went solo on a long weekend with Ski Weekender in December. It was fun, but as I was the only solo person I felt I was a person of interest and I'd rather not have been. I've looked at ski goddess and Wow and they look good if pricey. I've also looked at the snow heads bash thing, but it looks a bit too sociable for me.

Any recommendations please, particularly for short breaks rather than full weeks ? I'm in my 50s so I'd rather not have any enforced fun, but I'd like group lessons or outings I think, and communal meals.

Hi Op,

I’ve done Hofnar but not sure if it would be ideal for you. When I was there it was a mix of people in their 30s & 40s. I had a bit of a bad experience as I got ill whilst I was there so other people drinking/having a good time was a bit much with the super thin walls. You could try emailing the guy Dan who runs it though as he’s great and ask if they have a week with a slightly older crowd booked in.

As an alternative I stayed in the ‘Chalet Coeur des Brévières by Chalet Chardons’ and it was wonderful. It’s not a group holiday but you have a communal dining area and everyone chats over dinner so you meet lots of different people. It’s big enough to find some people in a similar boat. Yet you still get your own room/access to a lovely sauna for a really reasonable price. If you can overlook potentially having to ski on your own (you could always book a group lesson for yourself) then it’s brill. Staff were amazing and all super chatty/friendly - lots of people from the UK. They have a few different chalets in the same chain so you’ve got location options but I have only been to the Tignes one. Lots of people there return every year and really recommend it.

Help! Which property is best?

I found these great hotels on Booking.com and love them all. Help me decide which one to book!

Thanks @Bonniethewestie I had seen Hofnar and wondered if it would be too partyish for me. I will look at the other one.

Just in case anyone is looking for a similar thing, I've booked ladies week with this company www.pilaski.co.uk/booking/offers. Fingers crossed it looks exactly what I want.

i would say you would be the perfect demographic for ski goddess if you can get beyond the price… Other than your flights and a few lunches it includes absolutely everything (tuition, rental, pass, half board).

rookiemere · 28/08/2023 08:43

@ididntthough snow goddess does look really good, but the dates for my level don't really work well for me this time. Let's see how I get on - definitely one for the future.

Ski Goddess is brilliant. I’m going back again for the second year in a row. I saw on their social media that they have some availability left, particularly in January on the more advanced courses. Highly recommended- hope this encourages anyone going solo - I saw it recommended somewhere on here and that pushed me to book as a solo traveller 😊.
