Help please!
I am taking my daughter skiing for the first time in Meribel this half term on my own (DH not a fan of skiing). It will be Dd's first time and my first time in a while...

We're all sorted for ski-hire, lessons etc but I'm getting nervous about how busy it will be ..

Will we need to book lunch or is it pretty easy to get a quick, casual lunch next to the slopes?

Any other tips for doing Meribel with an 8 year old greatly appreciated! Thank you!

There wil be 60 Y10's from ds school there. It will be v v busy. Feb HT is the busiest of all holidays. However the 3 Valleys is fabulous and you will have a ball.

Saw this fabulous graph on Snowheads last night. It shows visitor numbers to the Alps by week, and was done by a Dutch company.
February half term is indeed popular.

Yikes! Hopefully enough room for all on the slopes!

We're sorted for breakfast and dinner at hotel but had left lunch unplanned. I had assumed there would be plenty of cafés/restaurants next to the pistes to grab a quick/small lunch, nothing fancy. But someone mentioned i might need to book and wondered if that is the case as I have no idea where we would be or what would be best!

TIA

There will be stacks of places to find morning coffees and lunch. The piste map should indicate where the mountain restaurants are. Have a fabulous time!

I would aim for an earlier rather than later lunch though, if it does feel busy. Also remember restaurants at the foot of the slopes too.

gingercat02 · 08/02/2023 18:21

We have never booked restaurants/cafes for lunch you should be fine. Have fun ⛷

MaverickGooseGoose · 08/02/2023 18:44

It will be rammed but you'll be fine. Take a day bag with snacks / water and accept you'll have to queue.

Radiatorvalves · 08/02/2023 18:49

The weather looks nice next week. Can you take sandwiches to avoid crowds and no doubt pricey cafes? Enjoy!

Plenty of snack bars with no booking required. I always liked skiing into motteret for lunch as there’s lots of casual options and it’s a bit cheaper!

Anywhere needing booking probs wouldn’t be the kind of place you want to go with an 8 year old anyway (I wouldn’t anyway!).

It will be busy but I would get up and out of resort centre, it’s a huge ski area so there space enough for everyone and massive queues only happen on key lifts in and out of town.

Would also recommend the pool and bowling for your 8 year olds first time, ski school is exhausting so other activities for a few afternoons are a good idea.

Depends when your HT is I guess! That Dutch chart shows our half term as quieter than the week after and much quieter than New Year. In any event the 3V is such a massive area there are only a couple of pinch points in the day when people are trying to get back via the key linking runs. It’ll be fine, it will be sunny and the snow is holding up nicely.
Meribel has enough casual places like the Rond Point snack bar and the petite cuisine at the Folie douce. if you want to visit somewhere popular like Fruitiere or bel air in C1650 it is better to book.
My tip is that my youngest loves the hot chocolate at Les Castors in meribel, they go to town there!

Thanks so much for the reassurance and tips. I think we'll just be taking our chances with an early, casual lunch or even just stuffing my backpack with snacks. My fear of 8 year old hanger is real 😂!

Good tips on the swimmers too. A good back up plan in case she hates the skiing (but how could she?! )

Hope everyone heading off soon has a great time. I can't wait now 😁
