Newbie to skiing - what should I remember to bring?

We're going tomorrow to an apartment in a ski-in, ski-out resort in France. There's a Nespresso machine so bringing pods plus have borrowed a load of clothes (and it's a bit late now to get anything!) but what should I bring from home; corkscrew? Hot water bottle?

Oh and do you travel in your ski-jacket? Or bring another and pack it?

THANK YOU

From the first time you ever went on skis? There are clear warning instructions on most chairs that say to remove them.

Think so, tbf it's many years ago now.

I mean a close fitting sporty one with waist and chest strap. Not a fashion item. Not sure if that makes a difference 🤷‍♀️

Anyway each to their own, also depends on how much stuff needs to be carried - number of kids fleeces, etc etc.

More importantly than anyway, are you booked into some proper lessons OP? Don't try and wing it as a beginner, you'll make much more progress with some professional help.

I've always worn a backpack and never taken it off on the chair lift. Many many years of skiing, always been fine

I have seen several back pack incidents on chair lifts... they are not a good idea. Most chair lifts have a sign that they must be worn on the front which as a beginner, adds an extra layer of complexity when getting on and off chair lifts. They do affect your balance too.

Maybe bumpytrumpy has never taken their's off but why ignore the rules... it's not just about your own safety but also that of others, the number of clueless skiers I see, being oblivious to the conventions and inconveniencing others is frustrating.

We leave the backpack with our boots in the ski locker room. Despite having lessons for years I still have them and most people were wearing backpacks in my group (albeit not beginners) and seemed to have no trouble with them on lifts.

I also take a big shopper for the helmets which folds up in the rucksack.
