2022/2023 season. Who's in?

After having to cancel our 2021 trip 17 days before last year, I'm anxiously counting down to this year's. We are off to Austria in 23 days. Since the World Cup is going ahead, I'm reasonably confident that we'll actually make it this year.

So tell me. Where are you going, when and why did you pick that particular resort? If you've been before, what are you looking forward to?

We're going to Rauris in Austria, little sister to Zell Am See. We skied for the first time in February 2020 and fell in love with both skiing and Rauris. DH was particularly keen to return. We have spent a year on a dry slope thanks to buying an annual pass, so we are returning more confident than we left and this time hope to ski the red runs in resort as they are new to us. We can't wait to return to our favourite mountain pub, known in our house as 'the Soup Pub' due to their excellent tomato soup.

Last winter we did Switzerland twice, this winter likely France but we always book last minute-ish and chase the snow. We will do one week with one other couple or just the two of us and one week in a group.

I'm lucky enough to live in the mountains. The season here starts tomorrow (Friday 2nd. Dec) so I will drive to the nearest lift - 5 minutes away - and spend a couple of hours finding the muscles that I don't use from April to December. After which I'll drop in to one of the huts for a bowl of goulash soup and a beer.😎

We're off to Italy on the 1st January. Can't wait! We did manage twice last season.. Italy at new year and Andorra in Feb half term. Will probably only manage once this year as DD is going on the school ski trip. Although a short break with DH in term time is appealing.

I've only just started looking to book for Feb half Term! We had 2 of our 3 kids start Uni this year (one since dropped out) so didn't think we could go this year, but son has just announced he can take the week off...yey!!! so I'm scouring the web for possibles. Usually self drive and do Pierre et Vacances / CGH type self catered in Les Arcs or Tignes, Am now exploring Austria as never been and would love somewhere new, we like ski in/out with a pool and wondering if can find similar in Austria?

Where we're staying in Rauris is ski in/out with a pool, but you might find the resort too tiny if you're used to the big French ones.

I've been eyeing Mayrhofen for Easter 2024, which looks a decent size but not so much ski in/out.

We are heading to morzine in the school holidays. We managed to get over before the border closed last year but hoping this year is less stressful.

Thanks for the info, sounds lovely- did you book a hotel or self catering? I will look for next year as I found an apartment in Les Arcs which ticks all our boxes. Deposit paid, now to book en-route accommodations and ferry/eurotunnel. Also need to check out Covid requirements. Last year my son had to do daily tests as not fully vaxed. None of us are up to date with boosters I don't think, so need to investigate.

Self catering apartment but in a hotel style complex. So pool, restaurant, bar, spa etc. We prefer to self-cater, though are considering HB for Easter 2024.

Fab to hear you've got something booked!

@anneyc - there aren't any COVID travel restrictions for UK travellers entering France currently: they were lifted in August, so no need for vaccinations/testing for adults or children at the moment.

Oh yes! Will be in our place in Combloux from 31 December (Megeve ski area), then at friends in Les Gets for a weekend mid Jan, then the Dolomites, then Morzine end of March.

I stopped working in a full time role a few years ago and now do consulting - one my aims to was to be able to have lots of flexibility to accommodate skiing and other holidays.

Love the skiing!

PuttingDownRoots · 05/12/2022 10:36

Will be in Bulgaria in under two weeks. I don't ski though.. I leave that to the coordinated members of the family.
