Hi PollyAnna - have been reading some threads and realised you've been to La Rosiere a few times. We are trying to sort out either La R or Plan Peisey for MArch. Our problem is we are going with my parents who have never skied and whilst they are very keen to give it a go are aware of their possible limitations so I want to check out other things for them to do. They'll be happy with a bit of walking etc but my mum has expressed a desire to be able to go up the mountain on foot - would you know if there is this possibility ? It doesn't seem to have any cable cars and I can't find any info on whether the chairs are pedestrian friendly ?

I think you can go up the main cable car on foot, but I didn't see anyone doing this. I'm sorry I don't really know what there is to do in the area other than ski. Could the tour operator (we went with Esprit) give you more information?

La Rosiere is a small town and there isn't very much to do there. Having said that Les Arcs and all the places near there are very accessible so there may be more to do there.

On the other hand, skiing wise, we were complete beginners when we started there, and I think it is a good place to go if you have never skiied before.

Ah right so there is a main cable car ? I couldn't see one on the piste map - is there a cafe at all at the top ? I think other than that they'll be happy with a bit of walking which apparently you can do and they'll do a bit of skiing and drink lots of chocolate chaud avec cognac (oh no, that'll be me !).

Main lift in La Rosiere is a chair - but I seem to recall they allow downloading on it as well, which suggest pedestrians my be allows.

I recall no cafe at the top of this - but plenty lower down at resort level.

oh thanks mrLSG - at least if the old dear can get up the chairlift and have a look at the view it might appease her a bit .

Hi, Just got back from La Ros - we've been wondering about taking non-skiers with us next time also.
The main 6 man chair (Roche Noir) can be used by pedestrians and the view from the mountain is great (we took the kids up without ski's). There are also quite a few walking routes (pistes) marked with orange poles. I'm fairly certain that you can walk from the top of the six man chair across the ridge to the fort where you get a great view of Mont Blanc (and there's a Vin Chaud cabin as well!) There's a really nice restaurant half way up the mountain called Plan du Repos (at the top of the plan du Repos drag lift) that's on a walking route. They do good food and the best chocolat chaud (with whatever you want in it!) It might be an idea to hire snow shoes. Evolution 2 (local ski school) do quided snow show walks. There isn't a great deal to do in La Ros - only a dozen or so shops and a small cinema. Les Eucherts which is only a shortish walk away has a ten pin bowling alley and a some more shops. You can also get the local bus to Bourg St Maurice in the valley bottom which takes about 1 hour and is bigger. Because La Ros is south facing you can sit on a bar/restaurant terrace in the sun with your vin/chocolat chaud and watch the sun setting over the mountains behind Les Arcs - it really is magical. That info is fab - sounds just the job. The walks sound like they'd be great for my parents too and my mum will be happy with going up the chairlift and looking at the view !

We're actually staying in Les Eucherts so will probably check out the ten pin bowling too !

We're booked for 8 March and are v. excited !
