Eureka! I've done it!

I took the DC to our local dry slope today. We've been going about once a month, occasionally more since June time.

I've only been away skiing once, in February 2020, where I learned to ski (and fell in love with it) so most of my practice has been on that tough, dry terrain as our December 2021 trip was cancelled.

I've been trying to parallel ski for months. Just couldn't seem to get my foot round and would end up in a parallel/plough hybrid.

Well today, the conditions were perfect, the mat was the right amount of slippery... and I did it!! Something just clicked and I just knew how to do it!

Just sharing here as nobody else seemed that bothered and I want to shout about it. So proud of myself!

Fab! Well done. It’ll be easier on snow too.
Have you got a holiday booked?

RhubarbFairy · 26/02/2022 10:37

Thanks. I actually felt like a mildly competent skier yesterday.

We have. Not until Christmas though. In the meantime I get my fix at the dry slope and figure if I can do it there, I'll be fine on snow.

Well done! Is there a snow dome type place near you? Like the www.chillfactore.com/

It really is soooo much easier on even fake snow than that awful corrugated matting stuff!

Alas I'm near Bristol so no snowdome anywhere near me. I think Tamworth might be the closest. My parents live an hour from Chill Factore and MIL about 40 minutes from Tamworth, so I have looked at both. Can't bring myself to pay £200 for the four of us for a couple of hours though.

I console myself with thinking that if I'm able do it on the dry mat, I'll be even more confident and competent on snow when we actually get away again.
