best snow gear for toddler?

going "skiing" (to be interpreted loosely, dd will be 2 and i will be 30 weeks pregnant!) first week of march and i am starting to look into gear for dd.

grateful if experienced mums could let me know what's the best option for dd, both in terms of what to get (snowsuit vs salopettes+ jacket, whcih snowboots, what other essentials), and in tersm of where/what brand to buy. obvioulsy i would like something good value that keeps her warm and dry, but without spending a fortune.

dd had a Columbia 2 piece (similar to Santa Peak set) and a snowsuit, personally if they are likely to roll in snow use a snowsuit otherwise snow and wind will go up the back and get them cold and wet. Put leggings, long sleeve top , tights under neath as required . Whatever you get make sure it isn't too bulky and you get proper, well fitting, snowboots (we've had success with ones with velcro straps) otherwise she 'll get frustrated by inability to move freely. Also long cuff mittens so the wrists don't get exposed.

TK Maxx can be good for value as is H and M and tchibo (they may do their sets again soon). Also have seen boots in TK Maxx - Ricosta and Richter are good makes. GO Sport and Decathlon are also good value places to look if you are near one.

We are about to take 17 month old dd to Lapland. She is quite small for her age so it's been difficult finding things to fit but we've bought a Columbia 2 piece - the boys version as that is all we could find in her size - but this hopefully will work out quite well as it has a deep elasticated hem around the jacket which should stop snow getting up her back. I have bought her some merino woollen tights and a merino long sleeved poppered vest from Cambridge Baby and several pairs of thick woollen socks. I've also bought 2 fleece balaclavas as she tends to take off any normal hat, some wrist warmers and for hands, a pair of wool 'magic mittens' with some fleece-lined waterproof over-mits which come up way past her elbow so hopefully there'll be no chance she can get those off.
I got most things from either muddypuddles.co.uk, raindrops.co.uk (sale starts after New Year I think), cambridgebaby.co.uk and from our nearest ski shop. Last time I was in H&M they had sets and one-piece suits for toddlers and were quite reasonably priced.

Just to say anyone looking for toddlers skiwear for the upcoming season- Adams Kids skiwear is back on their website. We bought it for our DS last season and it was fab and I will be buying it again this year-although it is exactly the same as last year (don't think many people know they do it!?) Good value too! TK MAX are good and cheap as are decathlon

have a look at www.littleskiers.co.uk- they only stock childrens ski clothes and have a big advice section on what to take and a packing list which i found useful.

Decathlon is ok if you near one, i found they are good for cheap snow gear if just occasionally in snow, they aren't as waterproof or as good as the main brands.

Tchibo still had their two pieces which zip together in today

caronc are you anything to do with that website - like tessb who has also posted today . MN has a specific section for small businesses with a £30 fee. The prices look pretty high for those brands too.

H&M is great too - just brought my second set. I think Sallopettes and jacket are good as the jacket may get used more on its own than an all in one would. You definitely need some snow boots with big treds, loads of places do them - ski shops or even Clarks. Tights underneath are good for extra warmth too.

As abear go to H&M, fantastic ski wear, I live in th efrench alps and my son has always had great from H&M each year, it lasts the whole winter and is warm or try Decathalon, they are sprining up everywhere in the UK and have fantastic toddler ski wear

I would recommend though Salopets and jackets and not all in ones as toilet trips and sitting in warm restaurants are a bit of a hassle.

Decathalon also do great snow boots from size 18 uk 3 I think
