Skiing in France in Feb half term?

winterrabbit · 02/01/2022 23:14

We have a provisional booking in Feb half term for me, DH, and 3 kids aged 13, 11 and 3. DH and I are double vaxxed and will have had booster by the time we go. Our 13 year old is not yet vaxxed due to potential health risks so trying to work out if he will be able to get a covid pass if he tests every day in the region. Not sure if they still allow this or if they will insist on the super covid pass like Italy. Does anyone know? There's also the issue of the travel ban on UK citizens. Is this expected to be lifted? All looking a bit too difficult really!

@ButPerfectlyFormed

Can anyone confirm that the fit-to-fly certificates for France don't need to have QR code for them. Just done an LFT from Chronomics which purports to be fit-to-fly but the 'certificate' looks v low tech (no QR code) so I'm having doubts...
@ButPerfectlyFormed I'm not sure what the fit to fly certificate is? It isn't something that we needed a few weeks ago.

To travel to France we needed a completed declaration of honour form and a negative test.

The form itself was in printed form rather than digital so we didn't have to upload our negative test details or QR code.

We did however have our test checked and QR code scanned at various points- checkin at Luton, going through boarding gate, at top of steps into the plane and at security in France. I'm not sure if not having a QR code is ok as we all had one....

Africa2go · 10/02/2022 14:46

@ButPerfectlyFormed there are quite a few negative reviews of Chronomics on Snowheads - sorry, thats not what you want to hear.

ButPerfectlyFormed · 10/02/2022 15:31

Thanks @freckles20: fit-to-fly is short hand for travel tests (in this case antigen). Eurotunnel's website let's you upload your docs, including test results, in advance. Test results are manually checked by their staff and mine have just 'passed validation' so looks like we're ok. Hopefully good news @Peanutgurgle ! @Africa2go yes, but finger crossed ours seem to have gone smoothly - assuming they are indeed fit for purpose!

Peanutgurgle · 10/02/2022 15:43

Oh brilliant. Will try to upload once I have done our sons! Thanks for the info. Really grateful.

ButPerfectlyFormed · 10/02/2022 15:58

It took a few hours. I uploaded ours around 8am this morning and only got confirmation shortly before I posted. They do say, though, that they prioritise the checking by departure time. Good luck (to us both)!

Peanutgurgle · 10/02/2022 16:15

Best get on it asap! Currently staring at our sons test pleading with it not to develop two lines!

anneyc · 10/02/2022 16:20

@Mocha1978 @Doubleraspberry this will be good news indeed if the pre departure test is going to be scrapped- may I ask where I can find updates on this? Am wondering also if it will apply to single vacc'd 15 yr old son, given that he will take on the fully vaxxed status of his parents.

www.theguardian.com/travel/2022/feb/08/france-greece-and-portugal-relax-covid-travel-restrictions-as-half-term-nears

Slightly confusing as the article says France has updated its requirements but it looks like they are just planning to. The FCO is still showing the rules from 14 January with the 24 hour test requirement.

anneyc · 10/02/2022 17:15

@Doubleraspberry thankyou! That looks very promising. Hopefully they will relax the requirement before half term, inline with other countries.

Agreed, I’m not sure that Guardian article is quite right or very helpful when it comes to current French regs.

As I understand it this gives the current state of play as of tonight (10th Feb)..

The plan to drop pre-arrival testing completely, possibly as early as next week, was floated in the French press a day or two but AFAIK no official announcement has been made.

abricotine · 10/02/2022 21:53

In the summer, teenagers who weren’t vaxxed were permitted entry to France with a test (when fully vaxxed adult didn’t have to test). I would be surprised if the new rule were any different. Unvaccinated teens take their parents’ status for purposes of entry (they don’t need a compelling reason/quarantine etc); not aware it has ever applied to testing requirements. But we will find out soon I expect

Peanutgurgle · 11/02/2022 12:37

To any of those euro tunneling. You don’t need to worry to much about uploading stuff (DH had cocked it up) as they were happy to check hard copies. The chronomics lateral flows were fine too.

Doubleraspberry · 11/02/2022 13:04

How long did the private LFT take to arrive when you ordered it? I don't want to do it too early if the regime is going to change by the time we travel on 18th but also don't want to get stuck without it!

Peanutgurgle · 11/02/2022 13:26

It was two days I think. Not long.

workwoes123 · 11/02/2022 21:41

The lifting of the pre departure test for fully vaccinated people to enter France is now being reported as fact on french media. Starting from Saturday.

Ibizafun · 11/02/2022 22:02

We're in skiing in France now. Went to great trouble getting all covid paperwork and no one even checked them on arrival in Lyon.

Flammkuchen · 12/02/2022 08:53

In France now and all going smoothly. Covid App works with recovery + vaccine for my teen, which is a relief

anneyc · 12/02/2022 09:08

Good news -no tests required pre- departure for fully vaxxed. Now we wait to see whether this extends to part or unvaccinated minors travelling with fully vaccinated adults....

gardenhelpneeded · 12/02/2022 09:27

Is this on Uk news yet? We’re leaving tomorrow.

Doubleraspberry · 12/02/2022 10:56

Not on any official websites! No wonder the borders end up in confusion.

workwoes123 · 12/02/2022 11:16

It’s in the french embassy site - often the fastest to update.

workwoes123 · 12/02/2022 11:18

From Saturday 12 February 2022 onwards, vaccinated people do not need to take any COVID-19 travel tests before they travel to France from the UK.

English version from the french embassy site.

JoanOgden · 12/02/2022 12:35

I'm on the Eurostar now and the French border guards at St Pancras this morning said we didn't need to show our test results. Wish they had made this announcement a week earlier!

@Flammkuchen did you just show the NHS app for proof of one dose and a positive covid test? How did you upload?
