Skiing in France in Feb half term?

winterrabbit · 02/01/2022 23:14

We have a provisional booking in Feb half term for me, DH, and 3 kids aged 13, 11 and 3. DH and I are double vaxxed and will have had booster by the time we go. Our 13 year old is not yet vaxxed due to potential health risks so trying to work out if he will be able to get a covid pass if he tests every day in the region. Not sure if they still allow this or if they will insist on the super covid pass like Italy. Does anyone know? There's also the issue of the travel ban on UK citizens. Is this expected to be lifted? All looking a bit too difficult really!

@notimagain it sounds like there is a lot going on! You're right- English tourism will be at the bottom of the agenda, and rightly so.

It's made more tricky because our ski company is being endlessly positive.

I would just like some clarification as to the earliest that current rules might change- so maybe a statement that rules were English tourism will last until xx January at least.

I have learned the hard way to ask for a much more detailed agreement wrt which circumstances would entitle us to a refund. Our chalet firm mislead us, and in hindsight I should have been less trusting.

Nothing definite but this announcement is encouraging - they're going to review travel restrictions between France and UK next Wednesday..

I stand corrected with regard to my earlier post..I saw Mr Attal speaking earlier (BFM) but either I got distracted and missed that or maybe TV coverage moved on to the fun and games in the Senat before he made that comment.

Fingers crossed any changes include tourism PDQ.

Does anyone know (if ban lifted etc) how to get the right pass for 12-15 yr olds? My 12 yr old can have his second vaccine in the 1st Feb before our possible half term trip - but obviously he doesn't have the nhs app - so how do you get the covid pass? And is 10 days before travel enough?

So stressful - IF we're going there's loads I need to organise. Our chalet company similarly not entertaining of cancellation or roll over of booking at the moment.

IsThisNameTaken · 05/01/2022 18:43

I'm not sure if 10 days is long enough, but you can apply for a paper version of the nhs covid pass (with a qr code) from the gov.uk website

chalkyc2 · 05/01/2022 19:14

Ok well if they manage to get a digital response going we might be ok. Gah it's going to be close! I need to get winter tyres put on the car if we're going!

Unfortunately that’s only for English kids.

We’re in Wales. I’ve written to my AM (or whatever they’re called these days) to ask what provisions they’re sorting for Welsh kids

freckles20 · 05/01/2022 20:23

@Muchtoomuchtodo oh dear- it is all so frustrating and badly organised. I appreciate it takes a while to sort things out, but you do people have been having Covid jabs for ages so they really should be some way of proving it.

SkiRun0077 · 05/01/2022 20:39

I have a 14yr old whose had one jab was booked to get second but had covid over Xmas, reading it says she can’t have her second jab for 12weeks, does anyone know if she then needs a clear 14d after the jab to be considered “fully vaccinated”? We have flights 2nd April and it literally takes us right up to the 2nd April, assuming I could actually get a jab booked on the right day… alternatively I’m looking at switching to skiing in Switzerland instead if the rules are easier as we have Geneva flights.

graywall · 05/01/2022 21:18

This French government link says that your Pass Sanitaire and its associated QR code is valid 7 days after the 2nd or 3rd vaccination booster.

Petalpup · 05/01/2022 21:49

Any more information about the over 16 clause?
Dd refused the vaccine initially (scared of needle 🙄) , then got covid so is still completely unvaccinated and can’t have first dose for another month if I can even convince her.
Supposed to be going on school trip to France in the summer. I guess there’s time for the rules to change several times by then!

SkiRun0077 · 06/01/2022 18:33

Thanks @graywall I’ll have a read

Petalpup · 06/01/2022 18:42

My French is rusty to say the least but is that saying it’s only applicable to over 18s?

SkiRun0077 · 06/01/2022 19:02

There was a translate option button on the screen on left side when I scanned it.

SkiRun0077 · 06/01/2022 19:03

I couldn’t see specific reference to under 18s though

abricotine · 06/01/2022 23:07

That’s because it’s talking about the validity of the rappel/booster so only applies to 18+. But the rule is the same, 7 days after the second dose of a two-dose vaccine www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/en/coming-to-france/coming-to-france-your-covid-19-questions-answered/procedure-for-non-european-nationals-to-obtain-a-valid-covid-certificate-in/

I was told yesterday by the Gp practice nurse that you only have to wait 28 days from a positive pcr test to get vaccinated. Hope that's helpful?

Hi @Wistful977, I think the rules for young people may be different. My son's secondary school (up to year 11 so no older teens) originally sent a letter to parents from our local health authority to say that young people who had had Covid needed to wait 28 days for a vaccine.

But, they sent a further letter before Christmas to say this has now changed to 3 months.

It may have changed again, (although we haven't been notified of this), and I'm unsure as to what age the cut off changes to the 'adult' rule of 28 days.

Wistful977 · 07/01/2022 09:16

Hi Freckles - that's so confusing isn't it! I was asking her specifically about timings for a 14 year old but perhaps she is out of date with her information. I will have a look online and see.

Wistful977 · 07/01/2022 09:20

I wonder if anyone can help re nhs Covid pass for 13-15 year olds? I have downloaded the app on my DS's phone and spoken to the Gp who say that as I have proxy access that I should be able to see his vaccination info on the app but it isn't there? I'm hoping to book Italy for skiing feb half term but my DS will need his own QR code for the lifts etc in ski school and I don't feel confident booking until I know we can get this.

IsThisNameTaken · 07/01/2022 12:31

@Wistful977 i don't think you can get the QR code on the app for under 16's - you have to apply for a paper copy. DH has proxy access to DS's records and can see the covid jab under 'medicine' but there's no QR code.

Wistful977 · 08/01/2022 13:51

Does that mean that my DS will need to show a paper copy at each ski lift? I can imagine him losing this or having problems when he is in ski school

abricotine · 08/01/2022 15:59

If he has a phone you can usually download the country’s own vaccine pass app and scan the nhs code into it.

Wistful977 · 08/01/2022 17:19

Thank you abricotine - I think there's a barcode on the paper copy- do you think that might work?

graywall · 08/01/2022 19:47

Having skied at Christmas in France, don't worry! We were checked only three times over a 10 day period, each time at a lift in the resort. The second time my phone had died so had to rely on a printed copy of my vaccination details which they couldn't manage to scan. So they just let me through after looking at the details...
