Skiing in France in Feb half term?

winterrabbit · 02/01/2022 23:14

We have a provisional booking in Feb half term for me, DH, and 3 kids aged 13, 11 and 3. DH and I are double vaxxed and will have had booster by the time we go. Our 13 year old is not yet vaxxed due to potential health risks so trying to work out if he will be able to get a covid pass if he tests every day in the region. Not sure if they still allow this or if they will insist on the super covid pass like Italy. Does anyone know? There's also the issue of the travel ban on UK citizens. Is this expected to be lifted? All looking a bit too difficult really!

@freckles20 we are going at the weekend with our 12 and 14 year old who will need daily testing. One question my anxious 14 year old has - are the tests self administered or done by the nurses?

applegate79 · 26/01/2022 21:58

Thank you for the info about testing- the thought and organisation of it has been the most stressful bit of the holiday!!

freckles20 · 27/01/2022 07:20

@applegate79 I hope you have a lovely time! Unfortunately the tests are not self administered.

The first one that DS had was pretty unpleasant. He is usually a sneezer and is very used to LF testing, but he said that the doctor put the test stick very high into each nostril and it was quite unpleasant.

Since then (different site), the tests have been more like a usual one. All have been nostrils only.

freckles20 · 27/01/2022 07:27

Update re pass Sanitare / vaccinal checking. We have been checked more frequently over the past few days- in two restaurants, a bar, three lifts. The checks involve scanning your pass and seem quite thorough.

We were surprised that this included a check in a venue run by a Brit who had been adamant that no checking would occur (and vocal about it in social media). He did the checks himself and said that he had been warned that the police were asking venues to prove that they had been scanning passes.

Just to clarify: I wasn't intending on trying to get by without getting DS a test. Other members of our party and the ski chalet operators were suggesting that it was pointless as no one was checking....

freckles20 · 27/01/2022 07:31

@applegate79 if you possibly can try to get the testing facility to print the QR code for you. The second place that we used does this as a matter of routine.

The first would not do it despite a lot of pleading.

We have still been unable to open the link ourselves that we are given after each test to access the QR code. So without the print out we would be in a pickle.

Africa2go · 27/01/2022 09:30

@freckles which resort are you in? @applegate79 where are you going? Would be interested to hear how it works for you too, we go at half term to Les Gets with a single jabbed DD so will have to test every day and would welcome feedback as to how it goes.

applegate79 · 27/01/2022 10:25

@freckles20 that’s really helpful re print outs thank you. It is what it is re self administration….
@Africa2go we’re going to Morzine so booking into the main pharmacy there (not done this yet tho!)

charflits · 28/01/2022 08:28

We’re going to morzine too. We’ve got a teenager…one vaccine and NHS proof of positive PCR from November but obviously no QR codes for either. Waiting now to see what the changes bring on 3 Feb. If DS (15) can access the NHS app and it gives QR codes for single vaccine and previous positive test then I’m hoping these will scan into the TAC app and we’re sorted. If not we’re relying on pharmacy agreeing to issue an equivalency certificate as I don’t want to do daily testing. Have heard that one of the morzine pharmacies will issue equivalency certs but who knows? Did email but not heard anything back. Waiting game I guess. If anyone has any experience of getting equivalency certs then please share!

HeyitsAstrid · 28/01/2022 16:31

I was looking for the information about the changes on the 3rd Feb and came across this. It looks like the new NHS covid digital pass for over 12’s will show proof of a positive test as well as vaccination details. Not sure about QR codes though. I found the information here - www.gov.uk/guidance/nhs-covid-pass#children

On the equivalency certs, I did get a reply back from the pharmacy in Les Arcs when we were due to go for New Year. They asked for the NHS email showing my daughter’s positive result, an email confirming she’d had her first dose and a photo of her passport. They were going to issue the cert in time for our arrival and then we’d pay the 35 Euros on collection. I hope the pharmacy in Morzine get back to you @charflits

Many thanks @HeyitsAstrid….very helpful

Sorry quick check as I'm losing the plot with travel!

For France travelling by Eurotunnel - is the randox lateral flow certifly what I need? For over 12s? The £14.99 one?

BlackSwan · 29/01/2022 08:48

I have a 12 year old - but he will be less than 12 years 2 months when we ski. Will he still need to do daily testing? We arrive on a Sunday & I can't find pharmacies that will be open...

JoanOgden · 29/01/2022 09:57

No, less than 12 years 2 months means he's exempt

BlackSwan · 29/01/2022 10:08

Thanks Joan
Still unsure about the rules which apply at the border though. This:
French Guidance 22 Jan doesn't seem to say that over 12s take on the vaccination status of their parents, which seems to be commonly understood elsewhere...
I don't want to find our 12 year old needs to quarantine as he's unvaxxed!

abricotine · 29/01/2022 20:24

@BlackSwan it is very clear here and take heart that tens of thousands of travellers have done this trip and relied on these rules:

uk.ambafrance.org/COVID-19-rules-for-travel-between-France-and-the-UK-28918

BlackSwan · 29/01/2022 20:43

abricotine that is perfectly clear! Thank you so much for sharing. My mind is at rest.

applegate79 · 29/01/2022 21:30

@chalkyc2 we used chronomics ones - £15 each and all travelled over on eurotunnel this morning.
Been to the pharmacy and had the daily LFTs done - all really straightforward so far, hoping it stays that way 🤞

Which question on the declaration d’honneur. Is it one you just print off and write on? The Swiss one is electronic but the French is just a downloaded document…

doorornottodoor · 29/01/2022 23:02

Quick not which, sorry!

Yes that's correct Smile
doorornottodoor · 30/01/2022 07:20

@freckles20 thanks!

laddingford · 03/02/2022 14:14

@freckles20 or anyone - help!

We are in the same position as you were.

There are 5 of us, 4 double jabbed and boosted except my 13 year old daughter who has only had one jab. She gets her second the day we return!

We have arranged for someone to visit our accommodation every day at 5pm for the daily testing for her.

My confusion is that I have no idea which form to complete for the journey to France (we are taking the Eurotunnel). There does not seem to be a form specifically for a child who is allowed entry because parents are fully vaccinated.

If anyone could point me to the exact form I need to use, what elements i need to complete and what app (if any) i need to download it to, that will satisfy the French authorities.

I think we are clear on the daily testing.

Also, is everyone taking printed and digital version of the covid pass and what app does that need to be on?

Any help would be very much appreciated!!!!

Thanks!

FoxRedLabbingtons · 03/02/2022 14:24

laddingford I can't help you with the info about single jabbed folk, but in terms of the COVID pass, I have the NHS pass on my phone. I've also downloaded the TousAntiCovid app on our phones (including double jabbed DD) and have used the QR code from our NHS app (I took a screenshot and uploaded from that) and from DD's letter to get a pass vaccinal on the French App. It was a very easy job. I guess we will also take multiple print outs , especially as DD regularly parts company with her phone!

Mumrun41 · 03/02/2022 19:33

I’m hoping someone may be able to help me. We are due to go to France in half term. My 15 year old son has only had one vaccination but has recently had covid, confirmed with a lateral flow test and reported to the nhs - he didn't have a pcr test as government advice at the moment is that if asymptotic no pcr needed. He’s downloaded the COVID pass app today, and there’s no record of his positive test and only his one vaccination. We’re worried about what to do as we’re hoping we would be able to use this for his pass sanitaire and not have to test daily. Is this happening to anyone else? Thanks
